Bojonegoro Hits by Earthquake: A 3.1 Magnitude Shaker
BOJONEGORO, E Java: Residents of Bojonegoro, a city in East Java, Indonesia, felt the tremors of a 3.1 magnitude earthquake today. The earthquake, which struck at a depth of 10 kilometers, was reported by the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) around 2:00 PM local time.
The quake, classified as a shallow earthquake, occurred about 2 minutes ago, according to the BMKG’s latest update. It is important to note that while earthquakes of this magnitude can be felt, they generally cause minor damage and no major threats.
Earthquakes are quite common in Indonesia, an archipelago located on the ‘Ring of Fire’ – a region in the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur due to the frequent motion of tektonik (tectonic) plates.
The city of Bojonegoro, known for its rich cultural heritage and historic sites, remains calm and continues its daily activities. No immediate reports of damage or injuries have been received as of this writing.
"We felt the ground shake for a few seconds," said resident Junianto, "but it was over quickly, so we didn’t panic. It’s not the first time we’ve experienced an earthquake here."
As a precaution, authorities advise residents to remain prepared and aware of their surroundings, particularly during periods of high seismic activity. If you’re in an earthquake-prone area, familiarize yourself with safety measures to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
