Reluctant Teacher Transferred After League of Legends Incident

Teacher Pål Finstad Barred from Trosterud School Despite Parents’ Support

Trosterud School in Oslo‘s Groruddalen will not allow teacher Pål Finstad to continue teaching at the school after he raised concerns about leadership issues. Despite this, parents have voiced their support for the teacher, who they credit with improving their children’s reading and writing skills.

Finstad, who has been teaching at Trosterud, will be reassigned to another school in Oslo against his wishes, according to a report by Klassekampen. The news outlet reported earlier this year that Finstad received a written warning after he chose not to use Ipads in his teaching for a period. Finstad explained that he felt pressured by the school leadership to use Ipads even when he believed other tools would be more beneficial for the students.

Finstad and eight other teachers had raised concerns about poor working conditions and leadership problems at Trosterud. While Finstad declined to comment for this article, parents of 17 students in his class wrote a letter to the school expressing their full support for him. In the letter, parents praised Finstad for phasing out Ipads and noted that many of the students couldn’t even write their own names when he started teaching them.

Morten Relbo, the director of basic education for Oslo’s education department, declined to comment on the specifics of the case, stating that such issues are between the municipality as the employer and its employees.

The parents’ support for Finstad comes amidst broader debates about the reliance on digital tools in education. Critics argue that excessive use of Ipads and other digital devices can hinder certain aspects of learning, such as handwriting and concentration.

This is a developing story. More details will be added as they become available.
