In the first half of this year, the average cost of a restaurant lunch in the Czech Republic steadily climbed, with prices officially surpassing the 200-CZK threshold in April. According to data from Edenred, while lunch prices continue to rise, the pace of this increase is notably slower than in previous years, characterized by small, incremental adjustments rather than sharp, sudden spikes.
Regional Price Disparities Across the Country
Geographic location remains a primary factor in dining costs. Diners in the Zlín and Olomouc regions currently enjoy the most affordable lunch options among the country’s regional capitals, with prices sitting approximately 50 CZK lower than those found in Prague. By June, six of the thirteen monitored regional cities had seen average lunch prices climb above the 200-CZK mark.

The capital city maintains the highest price point, with the average lunch rising from 223 CZK in January to 228 CZK by the end of the half-year. Brno followed a similar upward trend, moving from just under 212 CZK to more than 217 CZK. Beyond these two major hubs, Plzeň, Liberec, Ostrava, and České Budějovice also reported average lunch costs exceeding 200 CZK as of June.

Market Trends and Future Outlook
Aneta Martišková, director of external relations at Edenred, notes that the current economic environment is defined by moderate growth. “The development in the first half of the year confirms that lunch prices continue to grow, but the pace of price increases is significantly milder than in previous years,” Martišková stated. The data shows that price adjustments are occurring in the order of single units of crowns.
The largest month-to-month increase recorded during this period occurred in June, when the average price rose by 1.2 CZK from the May level of 201 CZK.
