Rotterdam Police Warning "Stay Indoors" After Uncovering Knives in Rotterdam's IJsselmonde District"</p>”>Serial Shooter Captured: Police Hold 24-Year-Old Suspect
In a major breakthrough, Rotterdam police have arrested a 24-year-old suspect in connection with a series of fatal shootings in the IJsselmonde district. The suspect, who has ties to Curaçao and a history of minor offenses, was taken into custody on Thursday evening.
This arrest comes after weeks of investigation into the three separate shootings that occurred on December 21 and 28, and January 2. The victims, aged 63, 58, and 81, succumbed to their injuries. Prior to the arrest, police had warned residents to be extra vigilant, advising against going out alone.
The suspect was first identified through a tip to the police’s criminal intelligence unit, which led to his apprehension. During a search, a bag containing a firearm, believed to be the murder weapon, was discarded. The suspect’s accomplice, a 20-year-old man, was arrested earlier and remains in custody.
The suspect’s role and motive remain under investigation. Police sources indicate that he acted recklessly and brutally, with two victims shot in the head. Despite initial confusion about the suspect’s skin color, police have confirmed he has a dark complexion.
Police Chief Fred Westerbeke expressed confidence that the captured suspect is responsible for the serial shootings. "We’re certain of it," he stated, citing the evidence gathered. The suspect has been questioned but his motive remains unclear.
The arrest comes after public pressure and concern over the spate of shootings, which left the city on edge. Originally, police had insufficient evidence to arrest the suspect when they first encountered him following a tip. The case is Far from closed, but police hope this arrest will bring closure to the victims’ families and send a message of safety to the community.
Update: The suspect will be brought before a judge on Monday.
