Headline: Russia‘s Lavrov: No Point in Participating in World Peace Summit
Subhead: Russian Foreign Minister Reiterates Disinterest in Second Peace Summit, Citing Unchanged Ukrainian Stance
Article:
Moscow, in a stark reiteration of its position, has ruled out participation in the upcoming World Peace Summit, even if officially invited. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the TASS news agency.
Lavrov emphasized that the Ukrainian government has not relinquished its objective of restoring its territorial integrity to the borders of 1991, nor has it abandoned its demand for the withdrawal of Russian troops from these territories. These are key tenets of the ‘peace formula’ proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Organizers of the second peace summit, scheduled for October, aim to invite Russia, likely to impose certain conditions," Lavrov stated. Given this context, he reaffirmed Moscow’s disinterest in attending the summit, saying, "I’ve repeatedly stressed that Russia has no intention of participating in this event, even if we receive an official invitation."
The second peace summit, initially planned for November, has yet to take place. Its primary goal, as stated by Ukrainian officials, is to present a detailed plan for the war’s conclusion, with Russia also invited to participate.
