Samsung Details Android XR Smart Glasses and Features

Samsung Electronics has detailed the specifications, hardware design, and software features of its upcoming Android XR smart glasses during a press briefing following its Galaxy Unpacked event, according to Sammobile. Developed in collaboration with Google, Qualcomm, and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, the smart glasses are scheduled to launch this fall, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

The first wave of products will focus on voice interactions powered by Google’s Gemini AI assistant, alongside Samsung’s Bixby. According to The Verge, the devices will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip. The hardware features built-in speakers and microphones, a single button on the right stem, a power switch on the left, and a front-mounted camera paired with a recording LED. The current model does not include a built-in screen in the lenses.

Battery Life, Charging Case, and Durability Testing

Samsung announced that the smart glasses will offer up to nine hours of heavy use on a single charge. The accompanying charging case provides additional power, capable of charging the glasses more than seven times, according to 9to5Google.

To ensure durability, Jaein Choi, Samsung Electronics Head of Extended Reality Research & Development Team, explained that the company applied its smartphone-grade quality assurance standards to the eyewear. This includes drop tests, assessments for harsh outdoor conditions, and resistance testing against cosmetics, sweat, sunscreen, water, heat, and humidity. Samsung created 20 new testing methods specifically for the glasses, incorporating custom-designed hinges and temples built to withstand twisting and pulling.

Privacy Measures and Smartphone Integration

In response to consumer privacy concerns surrounding wearable recording devices, Samsung has implemented safeguards. The glasses will block filming if the recording LED light is covered or obscured. Furthermore, Samsung pledged that it will not use customer audio, screen-sharing, or video data from the smart glasses to train artificial intelligence models.

The built-in camera allows users to capture videos or read text from a whiteboard or presentation to organize key information into notes. Additionally, the device can summarize long messages received on a smartphone, which users can hear through the built-in speakers. Captured pictures will appear in a dedicated app, and copied text or visual data can be sent directly to Samsung Notes on supported phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Market Positioning and Future Outlook

Samsung is positioning the device as a “premium” product rather than targeting the lower end of the market, though exact pricing and a firm release date have not been disclosed. Industry analyst estimates suggest a potential price point between $600 and $700. The device will be sold through Samsung’s partners’ sales channels.

Samsung AI Smart Glasses: Everything New After Galaxy Unpacked!

The entry serves as Samsung’s first challenge to Meta, which held a 69.2% share of the smart glasses market in the first quarter of 2026, according to IDC data cited by CNBC. Choi stated that Samsung views the category as a niche market in its early stages and noted that glasses featuring built-in displays will follow future releases if they meet quality expectations.
