The global pricing strategy for Samsung’s flagship foldable devices has drawn intense scrutiny after official disclosures revealed significant cost disparities between South Korea and international markets. According to Roh Tae-moon, co-CEO and Head of the Device Experience Division at Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 sells for substantially less in its home market than it does across the United States and Europe.
Global Price Disparities for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8
Market data shows that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra carries a starting price of 2,58 juta won, which translates to roughly Rp 31,6 juta, in South Korea, according to findings reported by the Korea Times. In contrast, the same device reaches US$2.099 (approximately Rp 37,6 juta) in the United States and 2.199 euro (approximately Rp 44,8 juta) in Europe. These international figures represent markups of 20,4% and 44% respectively.
A similar pricing gap affects the standard Fold 8 model. Roh noted that the device costs US$1.541 atau Rp 27,6 juta domestically in South Korea. Buyers in the United States face a price tag of US$1.899 (Rp 34 juta)—a 23.2% increase—while European consumers pay up to US$2.280,95 (Rp 40,8 juta), marking a 48% premium over the South Korean launch price.

The price gap between South Korea and European markets reaches nearly 48% for the standard Fold 8 model, largely driven by regional distribution overhead and local import variations.
Why Samsung Keeps Prices Lower in South Korea
Addressing the rationale behind these regional gaps, Roh emphasized that South Korea serves as the foundational market for the Galaxy brand. According to Roh, consumer support, feedback, and encouragement from domestic buyers establish the core competitive edge needed to succeed globally. Samsung remains committed to offering its hardware at the most competitive price points possible in its home territory.
“As recognition of the importance of the Korea market, we will continue to upaya (strive) to offer Galaxy devices with the most competitive price in Korea and maintain it in the future,” Roh stated, as cited by the Korea Times.
Managing Supply Chain Pressures and Memory Cost Increases
Samsung continues to navigate financial pressures stemming from a broader surge in memory component costs that began earlier in the year. Roh explained that the corporation has absorbed the majority of these rising expenses through supply chain optimization and close collaboration with component vendors.

Despite these internal adjustments, some of the added expenses have inevitably translated into higher retail prices for newly launched hardware. Roh confirmed that Samsung will keep partnering with suppliers to blunt the impact on buyers:
“Once costs exceed our ability to bear them, it is inevitable that some of the increase will be seen in the launch price,” Roh explained. “Even in that condition, our goal is not to pass all the burden onto consumers. We will continue to work with our partners in order to minimize the impact while making Galaxy innovation accessible to as many customers as possible.”
