Santa Fe Deputy Roberto Mirabella Leaves ‘Unión por la Patria‘ to Form Provincial Bloc

Santa Fe Deputy Roberto Mirabella has announced his departure from the ‘Unión por la Patria’ (UP) bloc, which now stands at 98 members. Mirabella, elected to represent Santa Fe, sent a letter to Germán Martínez to communicate his decision and express his differences. He took to social media platform X to share his plans, "I’ve decided to create a provincial and justicialista parliamentary bloc, opposed to Milei. An autonomous bloc, free from directives or leaders imposing agendas. I will only answer to and for Santa Fe."

Sources close to the situation suspect that Mirabella’s move could дарEnable him to align with ‘La Libertad Avanza’ in the legislature. Despite not backing the government’s initiatives throughout the year, Mirabella distanced himself from the peronist bloc over the ‘anti-mafia law’ proposal. This initiative, put forward by Patricia Bullrich to toughen penalties for organized crime, sparked division within UP. Deputy Guillermo Snopek supported the proposal, irritating Martínez, while Mirabella and Diego Giuliano abstained from voting.

Mirabella’s ties with libertarian circles have been strengthened by an ex-aide who left his service to join Guillermo Francos’ team. Mirabella justified his decision to leave UP by stating, "I’m opposed to Milei, focusing on my province, not the National PJ. The differences in priorities and visions with my current bloc have reached a point where I feel I wouldn’t fulfill my commitment to the Santa Fe voters if I continued in it."

He criticized the bloc’s agenda as one that prioritizes Buenos Aires and its leaders over urgent provincial issues. "Santa Fe is struggling," he said. "Businesses are closing, jobs are being lost, and public investment is paralyzed." He vowed to create an autonomous bloc focusing solely on Santa Fe’s needs.

Mirabella, whose mandate runs until December 2025, is more closely linked to the ex-governor Omar Perotti than Martínez, who is associated with the Kirchnerist Agustín Rossi. Mirabella threatened to leave the bloc last year when Martínez was re-elected as the head of the bancada.
