Article:

The Mexican Secretary of Public Education (SEP) has adjusted the school calendar, extending the holiday season for basic education students in two states: Guanajuato and Baja California. While schools across the country were initially set to resume classes on January 9, students in these two states will enjoy their classrooms one week later, on January 13.

The phốied vacation, which began on December 19, 2024, and was initially scheduled to conclude on January 8, 2025, now has a different end date for students in Guanajuato and Baja California. The extended break means that students in these two states will have an extra four days of vacation.

The SEP’s calendar dictates that schools across Mexico have 190 effective teaching days, starting on August 26, 2024, and concluding on July 16, 2025. However, each state retains the autonomy to modify the calendar according to its unique needs.

Secretaries of education in Guanajuato and Baja California have attributed this delay to a two-day intensive training session for educators, planned for January 9 and 10. Consequently, despite the SEP calendar suggesting January 9 as the first day of the new term, each state will independently determine its start date based on local requirements.
