Fatal Collision Claims Life on N59
A scooter rider died Friday evening following a collision with a tractor in Nieuwerkerk. Police were called to the scene on the Rijksweg, near the Hubo-bouwmarkt along the N59, shortly before 19:00. Despite immediate efforts by emergency responders to resuscitate the victim, the rider succumbed to their injuries at the site.
Forensic Teams Secure the Scene
Members of the Forensische Opsporing (FO) arrived shortly after the incident to conduct a technical examination of the roadway. Officers are currently canvassing the area to gather statements from witnesses. The victim’s family has been notified, according to a police spokesperson.
Closure of the Nieuwerkerk-Bruinisse Corridor
To preserve evidence, police have shuttered both the main carriageway and the adjacent parallel roads. The thoroughfare connecting Nieuwerkerk and Bruinisse is expected to remain inaccessible to traffic until at least the beginning of the night. The fire department assisted by erecting a screening shield, a standard protocol during fatal incidents to shield the scene from public view and protect the privacy of those involved.
