In a significant operation in Gobernador Duval, La Pampa, local authorities confiscated 630 kilograms of vacuum-packed beef and offal, suspected of entering the country illegally. Simultaneously, in the southernmost province of Santa Cruz, officials at the Barrera Patagónica border crossing intercepted a truck carrying 3,019 kilograms of products of both animal and vegetable origin. The stringent border controls are not limited to just one region. In two separate incidents, over 3,000 kilograms of meat and produce were seized in the province of Tierra del Fuego. In one instance, authorities discovered the contraband hidden in a truck that was attempting to enter the province without complying with sanitary measures. In another case, a vehicle was intercepted with 1,500 kilograms of meat and vegetables, similarly lacking the required documentation.
These seizures are part of a broader crackdown on agricultural smuggling, which has become increasingly prevalent due to the closure of borders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
