Serial Predator’s Release Revoked After Drug Relapse and Illegal Porn OTrial

A man in his fifties, serving a 2013 sentence of 17 years in prison with a minimum term of 10 years for over 20 sexual assaults against five women, was recently returned to custody after violating his parole conditions.

Initially considered the harshest sentence ever imposed in a Norwegian sexual abuse case, the convict’s parole was granted in April 2021 with strict conditions, including refraining from alcohol and drugs. However, mere weeks later, on May 17, he was rearrested and charged with another sexual assault.

The latest charge was dropped in May 2022, but investigations revealed sobering realities: the man had purchased amfetamin and illegally obtained Ritalin multiple times post-release. Moreover, authorities found child exploitation materials on two of his computers and an external hard drive.

Prosecutors subsequently requested his recall to prison for violating parole terms. When the case was heard at Østre Innlandet District Court earlier this month, the defendant admitted to illegally acquiring and using Ritalin, and purchasing amfetamin, although a blood test taken at the time of his rearrest indicated amfetamin use.

The court ruled that the man’s drug use post-release had breached his parole conditions and ordered his return to prison. This recent turn of events underscores the continued risk posed by repeat sexual offenders and the critical role of parole supervision in protecting society.
