Mexico City—Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard joined the chorus of Mexican officials reacting to outgoing U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar’s recent comments, urging him not to weigh in on Mexico’s national affairs.
In a press conference, Ebrard responded to Salazar’s remarks about Mexico’s energy policy, stating, “We appreciate the ambassador’s work, but he should refrain from offering opinions on an issue that is purely domestic.”
Salazar, who is stepping down from his post, had earlier expressed his concerns about Mexico’s plan to reduce dependence on private energy companies. He suggested it could lead to a less stable energy sector and potential economic fallout.
Notably, Salazar’s tenure as ambassador was marked by significant changes in the bi-national relationship.
