Headline: Bold Shift: European Leaders Now Spoke of Peace in Ukraine, Says Orban
Article:
The tides are turning in Europe‘s stance on the Ukraine conflict, with leaders now openly discussing peace, a stark contrast to the initial reluctance, according to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. In an interview with M1, Orbán shared his observations on the evolving landscape.
"Just six months ago, when we took over the Council of the EU presidency, suggesting peace was almost taboo," Orbán revealed. "But today, everyone’s talking about it. That’s how much the situation has changed."
Comparing Europe to a swimmer finally breaking the surface after a long, exhausting period underwater, Orbán highlighted Hungary‘s significant efforts to normalize the Ukrainian situation. Initially, he noted, any mention of peace was akin to courting controversy in many European countries.
Orbán attributes this shift, at least in part, to the election of Donald Trump as the President of the United States. He believes Trump’s presidency has influenced a change in the EU’s stance toward Ukraine.
Previously, Orban had candidly stated in an interview with M1 that, in his view, Europe had effectively lost the Ukrainian conflict, despite attempts to deny it. Europe, he implied, was resorting to communication strategies to mask this reality.
As the narrative around the Ukraine conflict continues to evolve, so too does Europe’s stance. With peace now a topic of open conversation, the question remains: what steps will follow to translate these talks into tangible action?
