Six people face arrest and one victim requires hospital treatment following an overnight home invasion in New Plymouth, according to police statements detailing a violent assault on a sleeping occupant. Detective Sergeant Chris Allemann reported that multiple intruders forced entry into a Tumai Street residence in the suburb of Spotswood at approximately 10:30 p.m., waking the occupant before launching the attack.
The victim sustained serious injuries during the late-night intrusion and was transported to the hospital for medical care. Following the assault, two alleged offenders were located and arrested nearby with the assistance of a police dog unit. Meanwhile, a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident fled the scene.
Arrests Span Across Regions Following Hamilton Vehicle Tracking
According to Detective Sergeant Chris Allemann, a further four people were taken into custody at the Hamilton location.
An 18-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the New Plymouth District Court to face charges of aggravated burglary and possessing a knife in a public place. Additionally, a female suspect is set to appear in the Youth Court in connection with the home invasion.
Public Safety Status and Ongoing Police Appeal for Information
Despite the violent nature of the intrusion, police believe this was an isolated incident. Detective Sergeant Chris Allemann stated that there is no further risk to the public following what he described as a distressing event.
As police inquiries continue, investigators are urging members of the public to come forward. Authorities are appealing specifically for information from anyone residing on Tumai Street and the surrounding neighborhoods who noticed any suspicious activity around the time of the attack.
