The identification was made through dental record comparisons, confirmed by the Michigan State Police (MSP). The remains were discovered last Monday by hunters exploring an area near the Double JJ Resort, where the festival is held annually. Items found with the body included Graves’ wallet, a festival wristband, and his ID, as detailed by USA Today. While the cause of death has not yet been determined, authorities stated there were no indications of foul play.
The news brought some relief to Graves’ family, who have tirelessly searched for answers about his disappearance. In interviews with Fox 17, Kevin’s father, Gary Graves, expressed his gratitude towards those who supported the family throughout this time. "Thank you to everyone for the support, prayers, and help you’ve given us. At least now we can have some peace," he said.
Since Kevin’s disappearance, his family had not wavered in their efforts to find him. Each summer, they distributed flyers around the festival, and in 2023, they even erected a billboard near the event site in the hopes of obtaining information. In 2018, Kevin attended the festival with his girlfriend and friends. Investigations revealed that he had an argument with his partner and told her he would return to their tent, but he was never seen again.
Two days later, Kevin was reported missing, sparking an extensive search that involved tracking dogs, dive teams inspecting nearby lakes, and scores of volunteers. Despite these efforts, no significant leads were found at the time. According to Fox 17, a search and rescue specialist who participated in the operation described the terrain as extremely challenging, with marshy areas complicating efforts. "It was the toughest search I’ve ever been on, for multiple reasons," the expert commented, wishing to remain unnamed.
The Electric Forest Festival draws tens of thousands of attendees each year, offering a weekend of music and outdoor camping. As stated on its website, the event focuses on electronic music and improvisation bands. The general admission for the 2023 edition cost $600 per person, including camping access.
