Snow Returns, Bringing Slippery Roads and Traffic Chaos
As the new year ushered in, so did the snow, blanketing several regions across the country and causing slippery roads, according to local authorities.
The return of snow has led to several single-vehicle accidents, with vehicles skidding off the road. In Drammen, emergency services responded to a traffic collision on E18 at around 2 pm, where a vehicle had spun out and collided with the guardrail. Miraculously, no one was injured.
Earlier in the day, at around 1 pm, police were called to Ringerike, where a vehicle had skidded off the road due to extremely slippery conditions. "It is very icy at the scene," police confirmed.
Heavy snowfall is expected in Western Norway and parts of Trøndelag over the next few days, with meteorologists predicting 10-30 cm of snow on Thursday and up to 50 cm in some local areas on Friday. Mountainous regions could receive even more snow.
Winter Has Arrived
"Winter has arrived, and the snow is here,"ιμ-brain surname-Traffic Operations Manager Gunnar Dovland told Dagbladet. Although traffic has been low so far, snow can lead to slippery roads in some areas, he warns.
Despite the challenging conditions, traffic incidents have been fewer than expected on the first day of the year. Traffic Operations teams have been working tirelessly throughout the night and day to clear the roads.
As the evening approaches, traffic conditions will reveal whether the roads remain manageable.
Disruptions on Bergensbanen
On Wednesday morning, Bergensbanen was stuck without power for several hours, stranding around 100 passengers between Myrdal and Hallingseid. The line reopened at around 2 pm, but travelers should expect delays and alterations. Bane Nor apologizes for the inconvenience caused.
Stay informed and safe on the roads as winter settles in.
