Flash Fire in Molde: More Than 30 Evacuated as Blaze Spreads to Vehicles

A fierce fire broke out early Monday morning at Bugge Maskin & Transport in Eidsvåg, Molde municipality, Møre og Romsdal. The blaze has spread to several vehicles, prompting the evacuation of over 30 people from 14 nearby residences within a 300-meter radius.

Operations leader Eivind Klokkersund issued a statement warning of hazardous smoke heading towards Eidsvåg’s center. Authorities advise residents to keep windows and ventilation closed to minimize contact with the harmful fumes.

The advice is clear: Stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, Klokkersund emphasizes in an update to Dagbladet.

Crisis Management in Action

Molde municipality has set up a crisis team and sent SMS alerts to approximately 1700 residents in the affected area. The message is straightforward and direct:

  • Stay indoors!
  • Close all windows!
  • Turn off ventilation!

Nesset Omsorgssenter has been established as a shelter and support center for evacuees and their families. Additional help has been secured from the Norwegian Red Cross.

However, the fire service warns that they cannot predict how long the evacuation will last. As of now, attempts to extinguish the fire have been suspended. Officials are allowing the fire to burn out naturally due to safety concerns, especially regarding potential explosions.

Road Closure and Rescue Efforts

Sections of Fv62, Stubøvegen, have been shut down as they fall within the evacuation zone. All emergency services, including police, ambulance, and fire and rescue units, have been deployed to the scene.

"All necessary resources are in place," confirms Klokkersund, assuring the public that the situation is well under control.

For now, the fire remains contained to the initial site, with no signs of further spread.
