A man driving a Volkswagen Polo carrying more than 700 kilos of drugs attempted to escape police control on Wednesday afternoon in Corrientes, leading to a dramatic persecution that ended with his arrest. The incident occurred on Route 118, near the town of Loreto and San Miguel.
The driver, identified as R.T., rammed a police officer at the checkpoint where he was trying to evade the control. After fleeing the scene in his white Polo, a chase ensued, with the suspect driving for several kilometers before his vehicle was finally obstructed and he lost control, veering off onto the roadside.
Officers from the Argentine National Gendarmerie and Police, along with Prefectura Naval, managed to detain the suspect. Upon inspecting the vehicle, they discovered an enormous quantity of drug-filled packages, mostly marijuana bricks, stacked in the front passenger seat and spreading throughout the backseat. Local media sources reported that the seized drugs weighed over 700 kilos.
The driver suffered a leg fracture during the incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is currently in police custody, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing. The arrest took place near the town of San Miguel, approximately 40 kilometers from Loreto.

In other news, 12 Argentina nationals were arrested in Punta del Este, Uruguay, over the weekend, accused of selling drugs at local parties. The investigation began when police noticed the suspicious behavior of an Argentine man and a woman traveling in a car. Upon inspecting the vehicle, they found a substance commonly known as "tusi" and ecstasy pills, leading to the initial arrests.
The subsequent investigation resulted in two raids on hotels in Maldonado, where another 10 Argentine nationals were detained. The raids yielded seizures of various quantities of drugs, including cocaine, marijuana, and cash in both Argentine pesos and dollars. The suspects are now in the custody of the Maldonado Public Prosecutor’s Office, as the investigation into their possible connections to regional drug trafficking networks continues.
The attorney for one of the detainees recently commented on the situation, stating, "The defendants will have their right to defense and a fair trial, as guaranteed by law."
