Singapore will host South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on a state visit from Sunday, March 1st, to Tuesday, according to an announcement made Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). The visit comes at the invitation of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Strengthening Ties
President Lee will be accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung, along with members of his Cabinet and senior officials. The MFA stated that the visit “affirms the strong relations between Singapore and the Republic of Korea (ROK)” and will allow both nations to assess the progress of their Strategic Partnership, established in November 2025.
The elevation to a Strategic Partnership occurred as Singapore and South Korea celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations. This development followed Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s official visit to South Korea last year.
Agenda for the Visit
On Monday, President Lee is scheduled to receive a ceremonial welcome and will meet with President Tharman for a courtesy call. He will also be hosted for lunch by Prime Minister Wong. In the evening, President Tharman will host a state banquet in President Lee’s honor.
During the visit, Prime Minister Wong and President Lee will oversee the signing of several memoranda of understanding aimed at bolstering cooperation in trade, energy security, science and technology, intellectual property, environmental issues, and public safety, and security. As a gesture of goodwill, an orchid, named the Vanda Lee Jae Myung Kim Hea Kyung, will be dedicated in honor of President Lee and the First Lady.
