In an escalating pattern, multiple locations across the Drechtsteden region experienced heavy illegal firework activity overnight, leaving local emergency services overwhelmed. Reports flowed in from Dordrecht, Sliedrecht, Zwijndrecht, ‘s-Gravendeel, and Alblasserdam, with a total of five incidents documented, nearly double the figure from the previous year.
The unauthorized firework displays, which began late in the evening and stretched into the night, posed significant concerns for both public safety and law enforcement. Officials are reminding residents that possessing and detonating fireworks outside the designated periods and locations is not only dangerous but also illegal, carrying fines of up to €2,365.
