In a concerning development, the Pati Regency Health Agency (Dinas Kesehatan or Dinkes) has reported that mothers and infants in the area are being infected with sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. The situation has raised alarm bells among local health authorities.

A total of 61 pregnant women tested positive for HIV in Pati Regency in 2024, with 11 of these cases confirmed to have beeninfected with the virus. Shockingly, 5 newborn babies have also tested positive for HIV. Dr. Aviani Tritanti Venusia, the head of Dinkes Kabupaten Pati, expressed her concern over the spread of HIV to these vulnerable groups. "We’re worried because now we’re not just seeing it in specific communities, but it’s spreading to housewives, pregnant women, and even new babies," she said.

To combat this, Dinkes Kabupaten Pati encourages those infected with HIV/AIDS to take advantage of free antiretroviral drugs available at their facilities. These drugs can eliminate and minimize the replication of HIV in the body, allowing sufferers to maintain a normal lifestyle. "We advice those who test positive for HIV and AIDS to seek treatment. The drugs are free," Dr. Venusia said.

Currently, about 926 HIV/AIDS patients in Pati Regency are regularly taking the medication, while 261 are not adhering to their treatment. The agency has expanded its services to various hospitals, community health centers, and other medical facilities across the region to make it easier for patients to access care.

Dr. Venusia stressed, "We now have 32 outlets, so there are many facilities available in Pati Regency. There’s no need to go to a hospital; we’ve brought our services closer to you."
