Steam Deck Store Page Redirected to Homepage for Several Hours

Store Redirect Sparks Discontinuation Rumors

The Steam Deck store page redirected users to the main Steam homepage for several hours on Nov. 3, according to Notebookcheck.

Users on the r/SteamDeck subreddit spotted the redirect first, according to mlq.ai. PC Guide reported that the page went missing in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Valve’s other hardware, including the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller, remained on sale during the outage.

MIXED reported that both the buy link on Valve’s hardware page and the Deck’s search result led straight to the homepage. The store page returned later that day with the 512GB and 1TB OLED models listed again in the U.S., according to Notebookcheck. MLQ confirmed that the page loaded normally on Nov. 8.

Higher Memory Costs

The Steam Deck has faced slower sales since May, when Valve brought the OLED models back into stock with higher prices. The 512GB model rose to $789 from $549, while the 1TB model increased to $949 from $649. These figures represent increases of about 44% and 46%, respectively, according to mlq.ai.

Valve stated that the price jump was due to rising memory and storage costs, and the cheaper LCD models had already been discontinued, as PC Guide reported. When Valve restocked the OLED variants at these new price points, sales of the handheld dropped by more than 75%, according to PC Guide.

Component Pressures Across Hardware Makers

The same component squeeze affects much larger hardware makers across the tech industry. AI servers are absorbing so much DRAM and NAND that memory makers are earning margins near 80%, while device makers pay significantly more for raw components, according to mlq.ai.

Apple has similarly warned investors that rising memory costs will cut its holiday-quarter margins, as mlq.ai reported. Despite these broader industry supply pressures, Valve’s official Asia hardware partner Komodo Station still lists the devices in stock, offering the 512GB Steam Deck OLED for ¥137,980 and the 1TB model for ¥167,980 in Japan, according to PC Guide.

Steam Deck Availability Questions

Why did the Steam Deck store page disappear?

The page redirected to the Steam homepage for several hours on Nov. 3 before returning with the 512GB and 1TB OLED models listed again in the U.S., according to Notebookcheck. Valve has not commented on the outage, as mlq.ai reported.
