Gustavo, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, y Venustiano Carranza under Orange Alert: Strong WindsPredicted in Mexico City
Mexico City’s Secretaría de Gestión Integral de Riesgos y Protección Civil has raised the Orange Alert for strong winds in the boroughs of Gustavo A. Madero, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, and Venustiano Carranza. Winds are expected to gust between 60 and 69 kilometers per hour (km/h) between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM today.
An Yellow Alert remains in effect for windy conditions in Álvaro Obregón, Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Cuauhtémoc, Magdalena Contreras, Miguel Hidalgo, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco.
Residents are urged to secure or remove objects from outdoor spaces, avoid heights such as rooftops and ledges, and keep away from power lines and telephone poles. Drivers should exercise caution due to potential debris on roads. Pets should be secured in safe areas.
Emergency services have reported incidents of fallen trees due to the strong winds. One such incident occurred in Álvaro Obregón’s Las Águilas neighborhood, while another was reported in Iztapalapa’s Santa Cruz Meyehualco. Cuajimalpa also reported several tree falls, with one causing damage to a vehicle.
In response to the windy conditions, the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) has deployed additional quadrants to combat crime and ensure public safety. Residents can stay informed by joining EL UNIVERSAL’s WhatsApp channel.
