In an unexpected development on Monday, January 6, 2025, a Super Air Jet flight, IU-765, performing the Lombok (LOP) – Jakarta (CGK) route, executed an emergency landing at Surabaya’s Juanda International Airport (SUB) around 3:44 PM local time. The aircraft, an Airbus A320-200 with registration PK-SJV, touched down safely, with all passengers and crew accounted for and in good condition.
Muhammad Tohir, General Manager of Juanda International Airport, confirmed the incident and assured that the airport continued to operate normally. "Alhamdulillah, all passengers are fine and are now in the waiting lounge. We have also provided necessary services for them," said Tohir.
The emergency landing was triggered by a technical issue that prompted the aircraft to deviate from its scheduled route. Super Air Jet’s Chief Executive Officer, Ari Azhari, stressed that the diverted landing at Surabaya was a precautionary measure taken by the pilot, prioritizing safety and security. "Before departure, our aircraft underwent rigorous checks and was cleared for takeoff," Ari stated, adding, "During the flight, the plane’s system indicated the need for immediate ground inspection of one of its components."
Upon detecting the issue, the aircraft’s oxygen masks deployed, ensuring passenger and crew safety. Upon landing, passengers received appropriate care and assistance as per Super Air Jet’s procedures. A replacement aircraft was promptly made available for the continuation of the journey to Jakarta, scheduled for departure at 5:00 PM local time.
Azhari extended his apologies for the inconvenience caused to passengers and assured that Super Air Jet was committed to investigating the root cause of the technical issue. "Safety and comfort remain our top priorities. We appreciate our passengers’ understanding and patience as we work towards improving our services," Ari concluded.
