SpaceX called off the first attempt to launch the newest version of its Starship vehicle May 21 because of a problem with ground equipment. The upgraded design incorporates a revised propulsion system, featuring redesigned fuel transfer lines and larger propellant tanks. These adjustments allow all 33 Raptor engines on the Super Heavy booster to ignite simultaneously, addressing past ignition issues. Additionally, the upper stage features modifications intended to reduce the risk of fires from trapped leaking propellant.

Its 33 Raptor 3 engines (compared with V2’s Raptor 2s) have more thrust and around three times the payload capacity. Following engine tests on both Starship stages in the last two weeks — igniting all six Raptor 3s on the “Shipupper stage and all 33 Raptor 3s on theSuper Heavy” first stage — SpaceX proceeded with the launch preparation.
