Man Turns Himself In After Serious Assault on Deurne Railway Station

A suspect has turned himself in to the police following a serious assault in Deurne. According to reports, the man, who is in his 20s, severely beat a 22-year-old victim at the local railway station in late October. After the police released his photo on Monday morning, the suspect recognized himself and contacted Omroep Brabant, claiming his actions were in self-defense.

Claiming ignorance of the victim’s severe injuries, he told reporters that he was unaware the police were searching for him until they released his photo. The suspect was part of a group consisting of around five young individuals who were traveling from Eindhoven to Deurne by train on the night of October 26 to 27. An altercation started on the train and escalated once they arrived at Deurne station.

The victim sustained severe injuries, including a broken left eye socket and a split upper lip, and was ultimately hospitalized. Police distributed clear images of the suspect on Monday morning, which led to his subsequent surrender at a police station in Maastricht.

However, the suspect refutes the police’s account, claiming that he himself was attacked by a group of four people when departing the train in Deurne. He maintains that he defended himself and only struck out after being assaulted. Authorities have not commented on his version of events so far.

This incident comes after an earlier report by Omroep Brabant, wherein the police sought the public’s help in identifying the suspect involved in the assault at Deurne station. The investigation is ongoing.
