Heavily-Loaded Vehicle Sparks Suspicions of Theft; Police Make Arrests in Lærdal

A vigilant citizen alerted police to a suspicious vehicle filled with an unusually large quantity of clothing and other items, leading to a police pursuit and the arrest of three men on suspicion of theft.

The vehicle, driven by individuals who raised eyebrows, left the ferry with only one apparent route – heading towards Lærdal on the national route 5. Instead of entering the Lærdal tunnel, they continued eastward, ultimately meeting their fate at Ljøsne in Lærdal where police were waiting.

"Photos sent by the patrol team show goods in both the trunk and backseat," says Operations Leader Frode Kolltveit of the Western Police District. "There’s a lot of clothing, winter wear, underwear, bakery items, a bicycle, pharmacy articles, and shoes – every imaginable type of item."

The vehicle, along with its contents, has been impounded and transported to the nearest police station. The three suspects – a 40-year-old man and two men in their 30s – have been apprehended and taken to a detention facility. All three are foreign nationals.

Now, police face the task of sorting through the possible stolen goods and trying to link them to reported thefts. Kolltveit commends the individual who first spotted and reported the suspicious vehicle.

"It’s good that people are alert and keep an eye out, reporting what they notice," he says.
