Solar Boon: Swiss Mountain Aid’s Solar Impulse Program Powers Ahead
In an impressive stride towards sustainable energy, the Solar Impulse Foundation’s namesake program has seen a remarkable surge in interest and impact in 2024. Exclusively funded by donations, the initiative aimed to bolster support for solar panel installation on small business operating buildings in mountainous regions when it launched in April 2023.
The year of its inception, 281 projects received backing through this program, totaling CHF 8 million. However, 2024 has witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 470 projects secured funding—nearly a 70% increase in supported projects.
This influx of interest has translated into increased workload for experts at the Swiss Mountain Aid. They dedicated approximately 10,000 hours to reviewing these projects—25% more than in an average year. Notably, about 3,000 of these hours were specifically devoted to solar-related projects.
The spike in demand for solar energy solutions underscores a growing commitment to clean energy and sustainability, particularly among small businesses in mountainous regions.
