Sophie Hediger (26) Dies in Avalanche Accident; Switzerland Mourns

Sophie Hediger, a promising Swiss freestyle skier, lost her life in an avalanche accident in Arosa, Switzerland on Monday. The incident occurred in the Swiss Alps, west of the famous ski resort of Davos. Hediger was 26 years old.

The tragedy was confirmed by the Swiss Ski Association, with Walter Reusser, its president, expressing deep condolences to Hediger’s family. "We are speechless and our thoughts are with her family," Reusser said.

Hediger’s career was on the rise. She clinched her first two world cup podiums during the 2023/2024 season. She also represented Switzerland in the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Hediger’s elite competitive career began in 2020. She made her mark on the World Cup circuit and left an indelible impression on the freestyle skiing community. The skiing world is mourning the loss of this promising athlete.
