According to Komplett, Nintendo’s upcoming special edition console, the “Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition” Switch 2, sold out within minutes of opening for pre-orders on Thursday. Daniel Hauan, communications manager at Komplett, stated that the retailer sold several hundred units almost immediately and noted that they could have easily sold several thousand consoles if they had received a larger allocation from the manufacturer.
Limited Edition Stock Depleted Rapidly Across Retailers
The highly anticipated commemorative console carries an official release date of October 29. Following the rapid sell-out, Komplett removed the product’s ordering page and confirmed that no further restocks of this specific limited run are expected. Mohamed Abby Jama, sales manager for data and gaming at Elkjøp, described the customer interest as some of the strongest the company has experienced within the gaming category in a long time.
Elkjøp is currently offering the console for 7,000 kroner, representing one of the lower price points available on the market. However, Abby Jama warned consumers that their remaining inventory is dwindling fast. Industry-wide manufacturing constraints, specifically regarding global shortages and challenges tied to memory component access, are severely restricting available hardware volumes.
Standard Switch 2 Sales Surge Amid Global Price Increases
The intense focus on the Zelda-themed hardware release has triggered a broader ripple effect across the retail market. According to Komplett’s Hauan, consumer demand for the standard version of the Switch 2 has also skyrocketed in the wake of the announcement.

This sales spike occurs despite a widespread price hike that took effect globally at the beginning of the month. In the Norwegian market, retail prices for the base console have climbed by at least 500 kroner since the summer months. Entry-level pricing now sits at 6,000 kroner at minimum, while competing major electronics retailers charge significantly higher rates. Power currently lists the standard Switch 2 console at 6,900 kroner.
Simultaneously, Nintendo announced a major graphical overhaul for the classic title The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is slated for a Switch 2 release on November 5.
