A man in his late 30s has died from a stab wound to the chest following an argument at a home in Sydney’s inner-west on Sunday. Emergency services were called to a property on Spring Street in Concord around 12:10pm after receiving reports of a concern for welfare.
Upon arrival, police found the man with a stab wound and immediately began CPR, but he died at the scene. He has not yet been formally identified and, according to police, did not live at the property.
A 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is expected to be charged later this evening. A 47-year-old man, who is in a relationship with the 41-year-old, is assisting police with the investigation but is not currently in custody.
Superintendent Christine McDonald described the incident as “tragic” and the level of violence as “completely unnecessary.” She stated that the three men involved were friends and had known each other for approximately eight years.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the argument and have seized a kitchen knife from the property which they allege was the weapon used in the stabbing. While the investigation is underway, the incident is not currently being treated as domestic violence related.
Superintendent McDonald noted that none of the men involved were “adversely known” to police, although the 41-year-old man had previously reported a matter as a victim and had minor traffic matters on his record. The victim also had a prior history of reporting matters to police.
