Volodymyr Zelensky Expects Trump Meeting Post-Inauguration; Ukraine, Middle East Top Trump’s International Agenda
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that he anticipates a meeting with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump shortly after Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Zelensky revealed that while Trump will initially focus on domestic issues, Ukraine and the Middle East are high on his international policy agenda.
In a recent statement, Zelensky shared that Trump had expressed eagerness for an early visit from Zelensky, telling him, "One of the first visits I will hope for is from you." Trump, according to Zelensky, emphasized his priority to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
However, Zelensky stressed the importance of Trump’s plan aligning with Ukraine’s vision for resolving the crisis. "I want the plan Trump proposes to match our vision," Zelensky said. "After all, Ukraine is about our independence, our land, and our future."
Zelensky also hinted at early contacts between the Trump administration and Russia to discuss details of a potential resolution. He noted that the next steps should focus on concluding the active phase of the conflict, a crucial move towards societal recovery.
Ultimately, Zelensky underscored the importance of a fair and just peace for Ukraine. "For us, a fair peace is crucial. We don’t want to lose anything, but how it will look depends on our partners," Zelensky remarked.
As the Trump administration takes office, the world watches for signs of its approach to international conflicts, with Ukraine ready to engage in dialogue following Trump’s inauguration.
