Ivana from Dupnica: 10 Months Later, No Trace

written by Chief Editor

Title: Mystery of Missing Teen: 10 Months Later, Still No Clues About Bulgarian Girl’s Disappearance

In the heart of Bulgaria, the haunting mystery of a missing teenage girl, Iva, continues to elude authorities and torment her family as months turn into a year.

Body:

VATOCA, BULGARIA — "I only know how to live this way for the last 10 months," says Maria Georgieva, her voice heavy with despair and determination. "Whoever hasn’t experienced this can’t understand what it’s like for a mother not to know where her child is. I pray to God that she is alive and well somewhere, and I won’t stop hoping she’ll come back. This November, my Iva would have turned 18." Maria’s daughter, 17-year-old Iva from Dupnitsa, has been missing since February, and despite extensive searches and a substantial reward, her whereabouts remain unknown.

A Sudden Disappearance

On February 22, Iva left her school early, leaving behind her phone and without a word to anyone about her destination. As hours turned into days, her worried parents reported her missing, sparking a massive search effort involving police and volunteers. They scoured the countryside, checked abandoned buildings, and even searched local water bodies. Yet, there was no sign of the missing teen.

Her parents offered a 50,000-euro reward for information leading to her safe return, but the trail has gone cold. According to Maria, Iva had been facing problems at school and had been acting strangely, but her sudden disappearance took everyone by surprise. "We have no information about our child for the past 10 months," Maria says, her voice cracking. "We’re in total darkness. Initially, we received calls with alleged sightings, but now, it’s like she’s vanished without a trace."

Mother’s Unending Hope

In the quiet moments, Maria finds solace in the faint hope that Iva will return, alive and well. She draws strength from the story of missing boy Nicky from the nearby village of Konare, whose fate recently took a surprising turn when his body was found, along with his dog. Though the cases are different, Maria can’t help but cling to the sliver of hope that her daughter might still be found.

"We’re still waiting for any sign, any news," Maria says, her voice barely above a whisper. "I just want to know she’s safe, wherever she is. I’d take her back, no matter what. We just need to know she’s alive."

As the search for Iva enters its tenth month, authorities are still baffled. The case remains open, and leads are being followed, but time is running out. The hope for answers, and for Iva’s safe return, fades but does not disappear, echoing the unyielding love of a mother who waits.

Kiril Petkov, also a co-chair of the anti-corruption coalition party,_footer_Process Dahlia Bulgaria (PP-DB), took to social media to share his Christmas greetings. No Surrender: Mother’s Poisonous Love Leaves Child Yearning for Furbaby’s Return

written by Chief Editor

Title: Outpouring of Support for Disappeared Boy’s Dog in Konaere Village

A wave of solidarity has swept across Bulgaria after a appeal was launched to find a home for the dog of the missing 13-year-old Nicky from the village of Konaere, near Stara Zagora. Many have stepped forward, offering to take the dog in.

Nicky’s mother stated yesterday that the family does not want the dog and expressed concern for its wellbeing, as it appears malnourished. The dog is currently in a delicate condition, and veterinarians have advised that its prognosis is poor.

However, a twist came today when the boy’s stepfather, who has been caring for the dog for over a year, refused to give it up. "I’m not giving it away," Dimitar Yankov told bTV. "Veterinarians came yesterday and gave it some food. They’re coming again on the 27th to give it an injection, chip it, and sort out its documents. I can’t just give it away, I’ve been looking after it for over a year."

When asked why his wife had suggested finding another home for the dog, Yankov replied, "She’s a mess right now, she’s distraught because of the child. She doesn’t want to see the dog, but I will because a house needs a dog."

Tatyana Baycheva from the ‘New Chance for Rejected Angels’ organization in Kazanluk has taken the dog temporarily to provide medical care and treatment. She has assured the family that she will return the dog once it has recovered.

"Konaere’s dog is now with me," Baycheva wrote on Facebook. "We’re on our way to ‘Flamingo’ clinic. I took it under difficult circumstances, with a promise to return it after it’s checked. What happens next depends on the test results. The dog was in a state of collapse, in a fridge box. There was some food. The man refused to give it up because he was promised a lot of medical help. I don’t know how events will unfold, and I can’t guarantee I can keep it unless we do this by the book."

Baycheva also expressed concern about the dog’s future on Facebook, saying, "Whoever told you that chipping the dog would solve the problem? Right now, it’s tied to a drainpipe, without a shelter, shivering from the cold. It’s sick, it’s dying. You’re going to chip it! And they’ll start taking care of it tomorrow? Feeding it, taking it to the vet, walking it?"

The dog was first seen in the village on Sunday around 7:30 PM and was recognized by Nicky’s mother and stepfather.

Despite being stressed, the dog was taken along in an attempt to trace the missing boy, but without success. Nicky has been missing for eight days, and now the military has joined the search operation. Interior Minister Aatanas Ilkov assured the public that the search will continue, albeit with a smaller team from tomorrow.

No Positive Results: A Regrettable Outcome

written by Chief Editor

Title: Dive into Search: Missing Teen with Down Syndrome – Intensive Search Continues

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the search for missing 13-year-old Nikola, who has Down syndrome, has yet to yield positive results. Bulgaria’s Interior Minister, Atanas Ilkov, announced this grim update, revealing that despite extensive efforts, no significant leads have been found.

Minister Ilkov confirmed that the search area will be expanded, with more resources deployed to cover a broader perimeter. "We might have missed something, and we’re determined to be even more effective," he stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation. Adverse weather conditions, however, pose additional challenges to the rescue operation.

In a press conference, Ilkov emphasized that all institutions involved have taken appropriate actions and that no stone has been left unturned. Investigators are exploring all possibilities, but at present, there’s no evidence to suggest that Nikola has been abducted.

In a bid to bolster efforts, the Bulgarian Army joined the search today, as internal ministry officials expressed fatigue from the ongoing operation. Ilkov revealed that several citizen tips indicated that Nikola might be in a car, but a separate child with similar characteristics was found in a vehicle, leading to a dead end.

According to the Ministry of Defense, 106 military personnel equipped with six high-clearance vehicles, four drones, and thermal imaging cameras have been deployed to scour the landscapes around Gurgovo. The search for Nikola, who went missing on December 17, continues despite harsh weather conditions and mounting exhaustion among search teams.

Nikola’s mother expressed her concern, stating that her son’s trusting nature could have led him to leave with a stranger. Despite the odds, Bulgarian police vowed to persist in their search efforts until Nikola is found.

Keywords:

  • Missing child, Down syndrome, Bulgaria, Nikola Iliev, search operation, Atanas Ilkov, Interior Minister, Gurgovo, weather challenges

The national and international media have been covering this story extensively, raising awareness and rallying support for the search efforts. As the community holds its breath, we keep Nikola and his family in our thoughts and pray for a swift and safe resolution.

PP and DB to Split; DB Proves Smarter

Title: Bulgaria‘s Political Landscape in 2024: Expert Predictions and Hope for Change

In an exclusive interview with Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), seasoned political PR expert Diana Damyanova shared her insights into the political climate of Bulgaria as we step into 2024. During the broadcast of "12+4," she reflected on the political scene and offered her predictions for the coming year.

Damyanova believes that after the stagnation of the past couple of years, a political force will emerge to clearly and consistently represent the interests of the democratic community. While she cannot specify the timeline for this shift, she expects it to occur within the next five years. Currently, she sees the political scene moving towards two opposing poles, with GERB at one end. The other pole, she suggests, could be occupied by a left-leaning force, potentially from the presidency, or a centrist party focused on Bulgarians’ economic concerns.

Damyanova also noted a positive trend: Bulgarians are paying less attention to the political class, instead finding solace in individual achievements, sports, and cultural events. However, she regrets that no one has praise for the Bulgarian public life, which she describes as a total swamp that the country is hoping to emerge from.

Damyanova expressed concern that the democratic door opened in 2020 by the protesters has been closed in 2024. She blames GERB’s inclusion in the government while the Democratic Bulgaria (DB) coalition, despite being the second largest political force, refuses to participate. DB, she believes, wants to control the government entirely, not sharing power with GERB, a strategy she deems ill-advised.

Damyanova predicts a split within DB, with DB’s more rational wing understanding the need to govern and cooperate, rather than vainly pursue revolutionary changes. Three Failed Rescue Attempts After Woman Dies in Pirin

written by Chief Editor

Headline: Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Teams Aided Three Stranded Tourists in a Day

Search and rescue teams from Bulgaria’s Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) under the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) attended to three distressed hikers over the past 24 hours. The incidents occurred across different mountain ranges, highlighting the crucial role of these professionals in ensuring the safety of outdoor enthusiasts.

Story:

In the first incident, a hiker suffered a heart attack on Mount Balkan, above the village of Shipka. Responding swiftly, a six-member team from the MRS’s Kazanluk detachment rushed to the scene. They transported the stricken tourist, who was then handed over to medical services. Unfortunately, his current condition remains unknown.

Later in the day, a woman passed away at the "Bez Bog" hut in Pirin Mountain. MRS teams gently transported her body to the "Goce Delcev" hut, where an asphalt road allowed further transfer to relevant medical services.

Meanwhile, two individuals found themselves stranded near the Murgash checkpoint in the Rila Mountain. Despite poor winter conditions, they were riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) without adequate winter gear. The Sofia branch of MRS rushed to the rescue, transporting them to a safe location.

In light of the incidents, the Mountain Rescue Service advised that conditions for winter sports and tourism are generally good, with temperatures ranging from -1°C to -6°C in the mountain regions. However, they warned of potential avalanche risks due to strong winds, particularly on northern and northeastern slopes. All avalanche-prone zones are currently considered high risk.

The Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Service underscored their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all those exploring the country’s rugged and beautiful landscapes.

Brand Decorates Camera Lens for Christmas

written by Chief Editor

"Evelin Banev, the ‘Cocaine King,’ Joins Festive Preparations in Sofia Central Prison; Expresses Interest in Religious Discussions"

In an unexpected turn of events, Evelin Banev, dubbed the "Cocaine King," has thrown himself into the organizing and preparation of the upcoming Christmas celebration at the Central Sofia Prison. According to Bulgaria Dnes, Banev has personally requested to be involved in the festivities, though the exact role he will play remains unclear.

The druglord’s eager participation ranges from possible tasks such as decorating cells, dining halls, and corridors with festive decorations like wreaths, garlands, and snowflakes, to potentially being the sole decorator of the prison’s Christmas tree. Banev’s active engagement in these preparations has raised curiosity about the extent of his involvement and commitment to the event.

Banev’s recent interests expand beyond the holiday festivities. Just last week, he expressed a desire to attend religious discussions led by the Missia Spasenie foundation, which offers regular visits, personal meetings, seminars, educational programs, and even job assistance to both current and former inmates.

The ‘Cocaine King’ has found a myriad of activities to fill his time behind bars, yet he has still not started working. As his 6-year sentence continues, opportunities may soon arise for him to contribute more actively, such as through the foundation’s offerings for post-release support.

Original plan for Banev’s imprisonment, aimed at reducing recidivism risk and harm, has been established. The inmates’ rehabilitation and resocialization plan, tailored to Banev’s profile, has been approved by him, marking a positive step towards his correction and reformation.

Keep reading about this story and more on Bulgaria Dnes.
