"Trump Should Have Been First to Fly to Ukraine, Says Zelensky"

by Chief Editor January 5, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Title: Ukraine‘s Zelensky Hopes for Trump‘s Historic Visit Once War is Over

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed hope that former U.S. President Donald Trump could be the first leader to visit Ukraine by airplane, once hostilities with Russia have ceased. This move would be symbolic and monumental in the country’s post-war recovery.

In an interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman, Zelensky emphasized the importance of ensuring peace and establishing reliable air defense systems before opening Ukrainian airspace. He likened the situation to the airport in Rzeszów, Poland, currently accepting cargo flights for Ukraine with support from the U.S., including Patriot missile systems.

"Today, it’s not fair to relocate air defense systems from cities under attack to the airport. Our people are more important than planes," Zelensky noted. However, once the war concludes, he believes Trump’s visit could symbolize the restoration of normalcy and international relations.

The president’s statement echoes earlier sentiments from Ukrainian officials. Last October, the International Airport "Boryspil" indicated readiness to resume flight operations a month after the war ends. In November, presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak hinted that one civilian airport could reopen before the conflict’s conclusion.

However, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) predicts that flight restrictions over Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and Moldova will remain in place until at least 2029.

As talks of humanitarian aid, international support, and post-war recovery continue, Zelensky’s hopes highlight the potential return to normalcy that a visit from a former U.S. president could signify. With Trump’s historic visit, Ukraine’s skies could once again open up to the world.

"Lukashenko Apologizes to Zelensky: "Not Me, Putin" and Proposes retaliatory Strike on Belarus"

Ukraine War: Zelensky Reveals Strange Conversation with Belarus‘ Lukashenko

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has offered a rare glimpse into a peculiar conversation he had with Belarusian strongman Alexander Lukashenko at the outset of the war with Russia. In an interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman, Zelensky recounted the surreal exchange that took place within the first few days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Lukashenko, who has been widely condemned for allowing Russia to use Belarusian territory for military operations, called Zelensky to express his regrets, according to the Ukrainian leader. "He told me, ‘Volodya, it’s not me, it’s Putin. I have no control over the Russian rockets being launched into Ukraine from here,’" Zelensky recalls Lukashenko saying.

Zelensky responded by labeling Lukashenko as complicit, inviting him to explain how he could let this happen on his watch. Rather than taking responsibility, Lukashenko doubled down on his alliance with Russia, stating, "You can’t fight the Russians." Then, in an unexpected turn, he suggested Ukraine should strike a vital target in Belarus—its Mозырский НПЗ, or Mозырский oil refinery.

"Blow up the oil refinery," Lukashenko reportedly said. "You know how much it means to me."

This isn’t the first time Zelensky has spoken about his wish for a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Earlier, he told Friedman that Ukraine would agree to a ceasefire if its Western allies provided weaponry to deter future Russian aggression. He also stressed that direct talks with Russia are only possible once robust security guarantees are on the table from the U.S. and Europe.

Zelensky on U.S. Use of Sanctions to Deter Russia: ‘It’s Nonsense’

by Chief Editor January 5, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Ukrainian President Zelenksy: "Previous U.S. Sanctions Threats Were BS; I Asked for Preventive Measures"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy has revealed that he asked the United States for preventive sanctions against Russia before the full-scale invasion, dismissing earlier warnings as "bullshit." In an interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman, Zelenksy stated his disapproval of simply threatening sanctions in response to an invasion.

"All I asked for, first and foremost from the United States, is if you’re certain, if you have evidence, if he [Putin] tells you he’s going to invade, and it scares you, just give me two things: strengthen us with weapons, but above all, strengthen us with preconditions to prevent any war. I’m not asking for weapons first; I’m asking for sanctions," Zelenksy told Friedman. "Don’t say, ‘If he comes, if he crosses the border, if he starts killing, then we’ll impose sanctions.’ That’s bullshit, excuse my language."

Friedman, who understands Russian, acknowledged understanding Zelenksy’s point without translation. He then asked if the President felt that Ukraine had not received adequate support. Zelenksy responded, "I think not. We didn’t receive help… If we consider words as help, then we received a lot of it, even too much, because there were too many words."

Zelensky’s comments shed light on the diplomatic efforts leading up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, highlighting the persistent call for tougher actions to deter aggression. The interview underscores the urgent need for international cooperation and decisive action in the face of mounting geopolitical tensions.

Zelensky Details Disregard for Ukraine by Budapest Memorandum Signatories

by Chief Editor January 5, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Zelenksy on Ukraine’s Security: "We Need More Than Paper Promises"

President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated Ukraine’s need for solid security guarantees beyond mere written agreements, referencing the failed Budapest Memorandum. In an interview with American podcast host Lex Friedman, Zelensky expressed disillusionment with the lack of consequences for countries that guaranteed Ukraine’s security but failed to act when its territorial integrity was compromised.

Zelensky recalled, "Ukraine sent letters to all signatories of the Budapest Memorandum—including the U.S., Russia, UK, France, and China—when parts of Donbas and Crimea were occupied. None responded or engaged in suggested consultations. It’s as if they said, ‘We don’t care.’"

The Budapest Memorandum, signed in 1994, was supposed to assure Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders in exchange for giving up its nuclear arsenal. However, Zelensky believes that the signatories’ inaction since then has rendered the agreement ineffective.

"We can’t rely on paper guarantees; we need actions and commitments that carry weight," Zelensky stated. He also criticized former German Chancellor Angela Merkel for blocking Ukraine’s NATO invitation in 2008, despite former U.S. President George W. Bush’s support for it.

Zelensky has discussed the memorial’s shortcomings with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and expects to continue these discussions. Despite sending similar appeals during the full-scale invasion in February 2022, no respondents came forward even then.

"Ukraine must be able to trust these guarantees," Zelensky emphasized, describing the security situation as a "train of useless paper promises" with the Minsk agreements as the second carriage. He stressed that any solution must include genuine, active participation from the guarantor states.

President Zelensky Assumes Personal Oversight of 155th Brigade Crisis

by Chief Editor January 5, 2025

President Zelensky Tightens Control Over Troubled 155th Mechanized Brigade "Anna Kyivska"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has taken personal command of the situation surrounding the 155th Mechanized Brigade "Anna Kyivska," according to Reports. The move comes amidst allegations of desertion and mismanagement within the brigade, which is currently operating on the Pokrovsky direction.

In a Sunday statement, veteran journalist and ‘Censor.Net’ Chief Editor Yuri Butusov revealed that President Zelensky had reviewed the situation of the brigade, paying especial attention to the case of dozens of soldiers who deserted to France and the unauthorized departure of 1,700 servicemen during its formation in Ukraine.

Subsequently, the President ordered relevant authorities, including the Main Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, the Command of the Land Forces, the State Bureau of Investigation (GSR), and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), to submit official reports.

Butusov reported that following these developments, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), General Valeriy Zaluzhny, blamed the leadership of the 155th Brigade for the desertions, citing lack of communication with the soldiers. Consequently, a series of senior officers, including the brigade commander, chief of staff, and several deputies, along with some battalion commanders, have been or are in the process of being relieved of their duties.

Currently, continuous commissions and staff officers are at the brigade’s command post, providing explanations and submitting reports to all relevant auditors.

Butusov also revealed that due to the ongoing investigation, the brigade has lost its unit of new 155mm ‘Caesar’ howitzers, some VAB armored vehicles, and several ‘Leopard’ tanks, which have been reassigned to other brigades. Furthermore, operators of the Milan anti-tank missile system, who were trained in France, are now being deployed as infantry within the brigade.

Earlier, Butusov had already reported on the subpar recruitment and equipping of the newly established 155 Mechanized Brigade "Anna Kyivska." The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has since confirmed that it is probing the case under articles related to abuse of power and desertion.

Zelenskyy Confirms Need for Over Five Air Defense Systems to Fully Shield Ukraine from Russian Missiles

by Chief Editor January 3, 2025

Ukraine: Zelensky Calls for More Patriots to Fully Shield Skies from Russian Strikes

President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukraine still needs 10-12 more systems of the U.S.-built MIM-104 Patriot air defense missile system to entirely safeguard its skies from Russia‘s ongoing bombardment. This need has been spotlighted despite receiving just five units promised during NATO’s summit held in Washington in June 2022.

In an exclusive interview, aired live yesterday as part of the New Year telethon, President Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s urgent request. While recognizing the significance of the five acquired Patriot systems, Zelensky noted that the length of time to fulfill the total pledged supply is concerning, with no updates from Western nations yet.

The Patriot Delay and Russia’s Response

Following a successful military offensive in autumn 2022, Russia managed to identify and launch attacks on certain Patriot installations. According to Yuri Ignat, the then-Spokesman of Ukraine’s Air Forces, these systems remain combat-ready despite experiencing some damage. The incident emphasizes the criticality of having ample Patriot systems.

Zelensky also conveyed disappointment over delays in utilizing confiscated Russian funds to finance Ukraine’s defense infrastructure. He asserted that these monies could sponsor the acquisition of the additional air defense systems the country desperately requires.

Prior Pledges: Ukraine, NATO, and Diplomacy

Earlier, during NATO’s summit in Madrid, Allies had expressed consensus regarding Ukraine’s future membership path, a historic nod to solidarity and support in light of its current conflict.

Looking Ahead

To strengthen its resistance and protect the nation’s populace from Russia’s ongoing aerial bombardments, President Zelensky implores prompt delivery of more Patriots. Until this happens, Ukrainian skies face unabated vulnerability, underscoring the life-or-death implications of this urgent plea.

Speaking during a New Year’s Eve telethon with his wife, Elene, Zelensky emphasized the strategic importance of the operation, highlighting its significant impact on global perceptions of the conflict.

  • Zelensky’s Assessment: The Ukrainian president asserted that the Kursk operation has proven to be a substantial game-changer in diplomatic exchanges, especially with countries in the Global South. He expressed surprise at the immense influence the operation has had on these nations.

  • Russian Troops’ Struggle: Zelensky pointed out that the inability of Russian forces to make significant progress in the Kursk region, despite deploying additional troops, has resonated strongly with countries in the Global South. He also noted Russia’s decision to redeploy a North Korean contingent to the area, suggesting it was a tactical mistake.

Зеленский: US Security Guarantees Essential for Ukraine’s Defense

by Chief Editor January 2, 2025
written by Chief Editor

President Zelensky: U.S. Involvement Vital for Ukraine’s Effective Security Guarantees

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasized the importance of U.S. involvement in any security guarantees for Ukraine, stating that they are crucial for their effectiveness. In an interview broadcast on a telethon on January 2, Zelensky underscored the significance of the U.S. role in ensuring Ukraine’s security, reports "European Truth".

Discussing his vision of a fair world for Ukraine, Zelensky asserted, "A fair world for us implies powerful, robust security guarantees. And here, NATO is the best option for us. We’re fighting for that, and we’ll continue to do so. If not that, then we wouldn’t want to give in to alternative suggestions without the U.S. Any security guarantees without U.S. involvement are weak for Ukraine."

Zelensky used Israel as an example, noting that despite not being a NATO member, it enjoys robust security guarantees from the U.S. and other states. He remarked, "Such security guarantees have not yet been offered to Ukraine, despite there being many details to these guarantees."

Earlier, Zelensky had also highlighted security guarantees as a key component of Ukraine’s strong negotiating position vis-à-vis Russia. Notably, the European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, had called on Western capitals to stop pressuring Ukraine into peace talks and instead ensure that their pledged security guarantees are not empty promises.

As the global community continues to evolve its stance on Ukraine’s security, Zelensky’s reiteration of the U.S.’s crucial role in ensuring these guarantees underscores the complexity and importance of this geopolitical landscape.

Zelensky: Trump’s Role Could be Crucial in Ending War

by Chief Editor January 2, 2025

Ukrainian Trump is elected 47th president, soundly defeating Harris to retake …”>President Hails Trump as Key to Ending Conflict, Curbing Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed optimism that incoming U.S. President Donald Trump could play a decisive role in ending the war in eastern Ukraine and helping to contain Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky made these remarks in an interview with his wife, Olena Zelenska, during a New Year’s telethon on January 2.

"Trump could be the decisive factor," Zelensky stated. "For us, that’s the most important thing. His qualities, they exist. He is capable of being the decisive factor in this war. He can help us stop Putin."

Zelensky reiterated that he had previously spoken with Trump on several occasions. He described the U.S. President-elect as "strong and unpredictable," and expressed hope that Trump’s unpredictability would primarily be directed towards Russia. Zelensky also asserted his belief that Trump was genuinely interested in terminating the conflict in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian leader’s remarks come amidst ongoing tensions with Russia following Moscow’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its support for separatists in eastern Ukraine. With the U.S. poised to undergo a change in leadership, Zelensky’s faith in Trump’s ability to influence the situation reflects the high stakes involved in the U.S.-Ukraine relationship.
