Breaking News: North Korean Defector Surfaces in Russia
In a surprising turn of events, a formerNorth Korean military official, Gyoung Hong Jongg, has revealed that he has left his home country and is now residing in the Russian Federation (RF). In a personal notebook found among his effects, Jongg penned a birthday greeting to his Army comrade Song Ji Myong, wishing him good health.
"Having left my homeland and now residing in Russia, I extend my warmest birthday wishes to my dearest friend and Army brother, Song Ji Myong (Yong), wishing him robust health," Jongg wrote in the notebook, dated December 9, 2024.
This is the first decoded entry from the captured notebook, with others still being translated, according to the commanding forces.
The Curious Case of the Kurgan Region
The revelation comes on the heels of South Korean intelligence reports indicating that North Korea (DPRK) is planning to send more troops to Russia, accompanied by additional military hardware, including kamikaze drones.
In late October, Ukraine‘s military intelligence noted that approximately 12,000 North Korean soldiers had already been redeployed to Russia. This development, coupled with Jongg’s defection, raises questions about the growing military alliance between Pyongyang and Moscow.
As this complex situation unfolds, we will continue to monitor and report on any further developments. Stay tuned for more updates.
