Indonesian Police Officer Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Corruption, Shocking Audience at DWP

Indonesian Police‘s Ethics Commission Demotes Officer Involved in DWP 2024 Extortion Case

In a significant turn of events, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has held a disciplinary hearing for a police officer, initialed as ‘D’, who was allegedly involved in extorting attendees at the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) 2024. As a result, the officer has been demoted for a period of five years.

The decision was announced by Kombes Erdi Adrimulan Chaniago, the Head of Public Relations Division at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta. The officer, who was serving as the Chief of snacks at the Subdivision III of the National Narcotics Agency’s Regional Office in Metro Jaya, was found to have demanded money from attendees in exchange for their release after being arrested on suspicion of drug use.

Consequently, the officer has been issued a demotion of five years, effective immediately. Furthermore, he has been instructed to apologize verbally during the disciplinary hearing and in writing to the Police Chief. The officer will also undergo a month-long program focusing on spiritual, mental, and professional knowledge development.

In addition to these sanctions, the officer has been placed in a special patrol unit (Patsus) for 20 days, starting from December 27, 2024, until January 15, 2025. This decision was made following a thorough investigation involving the officer and four witnesses.

The disciplinary hearing was held today from 9:00 AM to 2:10 PM WIB at the Propam Division’s Meeting Room, 1st Floor of the TNCC Building at the National Police Headquarter. Brigjen Agus Wijayanto, the Karowabprof (Head of Professional Security Division) in the Propam Division, served as the Chairman of the Hearing Committee, with Kombes Heri Setyawan, the Head of Internal Ethics Division in the Propam Division, acting as Vice-Chairman.

The three members of the committee were AKBP Heru Waluyo, AKBP Rusdi Batubara, and AKBP Endang Werdiningsih, who served as the heads of their respective sub-divisions in the Propam Division.

The committee found that the officer had been involved in ensuring the safety of DWP 2024 attendees, including both WNI (Indonesian citizens) and WNA (foreigners), following reports of drug use. However, during the subsequent investigation, he demanded money in exchange for their release.

The officer’s actions violated several regulations, including the PP No. 1/2003 regarding the Dismissal of Police Officers, the PP No. 7/2022 regarding the Code of Ethics and the Ethics Commission of the Indonesian National Police. The officer has the right to appeal the decision.

The incident occurred during the DWP event at the JIExpo Kemayoran in Central Jakarta on December 13-15, 2024. A total of 18 officers from the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Metro Jakarta Pusat District Police, and Kemayoran Police Sector were involved. As of January 8, 2025, 12 officers have already been subject to disciplinary hearings, and the process will continue until all 18 officers have been addressed.

"Historic Shift: Indonesia’s MK Eliminates Presidential Threshold and Its Potential Impact on the Republic"

by Chief Editor January 3, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Indonesia‘s Mahkamah Konstitusi Abolishes Presidential Threshold for Polls: More Candidates Expected in 2029

Article:

The Constitutional Court (MK) of Indonesia has struck down the presidential threshold, a requirement that presidential candidates must secure at least 20% of the seats in the House of Representatives (DPR) or 25% of the national valid votes in the previous legislative election to be eligible. This decision is set to increase the number of presidential hopefuls in the 2029 election.

In a ruling on case 62/PUU-XXI/2023 delivered on January 2, 2025, the MK, led by its chief Suhartoyo, abolished the threshold, citing that it contradicts the 1945 Indonesian Constitution and lacks legal binding power. The MK granted all demands from the petitioners – four lawyers from the Syariah and Law Faculty of UIN Sunan Kalijaga.

The presidential threshold, introduced in the 2017 Election Law, was aimed at ensuring that only larger parties could nominate presidential candidates. However, the petitioners argued that it violated the "one man one vote one value" principle by creating disparities in the weight of votes.

The MK agreed, stating that the value of votes should be determined within each election period. The presidential threshold, currently set at 20% of DPR seats or 25% of national valid votes, extends its influence across two election periods, potentially distorting democratic representation.

This ruling comes after a series of other cases challenging the constitutionality of the presidential threshold. These include case 129/PUU-XXI/2023, filed by Gugum Ridho Putra, case 87/PUU-XXII/2024, involving four lecturers, and case 101/PUU-XXII/2024, submitted by the Netgrit democracy activist and transparency foundation, represented by Hadar Nafis Gumay and Titi Anggraini.

The MK’s decision indicates that the presidential threshold contravenes political rights, popular sovereignty, and moral, rational, and highly intolerable unfairness principles cherished by the 1945 Constitution. Henceforth, presidential and vice-presidential candidates can be nominated by political parties or coalitions regardless of their seat or vote share in previous elections.

Eliminating the presidential threshold may open the door to as many as 30 presidential and vice-presidential pairs, says MK deputy chief Saldi Isra.

The presidential threshold was initially introduced as an additional regulation to strengthen the presidential system. It first appeared in the 2003 Law on the Election of the President and Vice President, with a threshold of 15% of DPR seats or 20% of national valid votes. This was subsequently raised to 25% of DPR seats or 20% of national valid votes in the 2008 Law. The current threshold was set in the 2017 Election Law.

With the MK’s decision, political parties and coalitions can now nominate more diverse presidential candidates, fostering greater choice and inclusivity in Indonesian democracy. This ruling is expected to shape the presidential landscape in the upcoming 2029 election.

Title: 2024 in Retrospect: A Year of Darkness and Irony

As the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2024, few would have predicted that the subsequent 12 months would be dominated by chaos, violence, and a descent into the abyss. In hindsight, 2024 stands out as a year that could be summarized with one word: darkness.

A grim milestone reached

The year started with an alarming statistic: more than 1.2 million people have died in school shootings since records began. While this figure is chilling enough, the irony of Donald Trump being nearly assassinated by a mentally unstable individual has only served to underscore the political exploitation of this decades-long tragedy. As the former president-elect enters his fourth term, gun control advocates are left mourning the loss of countless lives and the failure of leadership.

A frozen conflict

While the war in Ukraine appeared to be underway since 2014, 2024 marked a turning point. Initially predicted to be a short and decisive victory for Russia, the conflict has become a protracted and costly affair. The United States’ decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine, driven by Republican influence in Congress, has enabled Putin to consolidate gains. Now, with Trump’s return to the White House, Ukraine’s NATO allies have cause for concern regarding potential troop withdrawal and the alliance’s eastward expansion.

A Europe braced for war

From Sweden to Finland, Europe’s northern neighbors are no longer dismissing the threat of Russia’s aggressive expansion. Governments are issuing defensive guidelines and preparing their citizens for the worst. The chill of war is creeping closer to home.

Dictatorship 2.0

In a stunning turn of events, North Korea has lent military support to Russia’s war effort. With 100,000 troops dispatched, Kim Jong-un has given Putin a valuable lifeline, allowing the Russian president to offload casualties onto Pyongyang’s soldiers. While this gesture has bolstered Russia’s military, it has raised alarming questions about the international solidarity of rogue states.

Across the region, democratic fragility is on display. In South Korea, a nascent coup attempt was thwarted, and in Georgia, Europe’s easternmost state, democratic backsliding continues. As for the United States, many are left wondering if it, too, may soon face internal unrest.

A Middle East ablaze

In the Middle East, Israel’s unchecked military efforts in Gaza have emboldened Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to launch military strikes across the region. From Lebanon to Syria, Israel’s aggressive tactics have met with little international repercussions, as US presidential leniency has emboldened Israeli extremism.

Meanwhile, Syria’s political future is uncertain. With Bashar al-Assad’s sudden fall from power, a power vacuum has emerged. While there’s hope for a democratic transition, the rise of ISIS or factional violence remains a genuine fear.

Foreboding horizons

As the new year approached, several developments raised the specter of further global instability. Russia’s potential return to Ukraine could see Putin reclaim lost territory, while Israel’s expansionist ambitions in Syria threaten to exacerbate regional tensions.

In an outrageous display of FIFA’s desperation for cash, Saudi Arabia was awarded the 2034 World Cup. Under the regime of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, the kingdom has been accused of human rights abuses, including the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. One cannot help but wonder if FIFA has given up any last shreds of moral integrity in pursuit of profit.

As the curtain fell on 2024, the world found itself in a dark, bitter, and seemingly irreversible state. However, we must endeavor to grasp at the fading embers of hope for 2025, and not allow the ironies and injustices of the past year to define what’s yet to come.

Here’s the SEO-optimized article for News.RO:

**Title: Lasi celebrii, sedintii si colonna de tribut sanguin severely affected by blood donation crisis, avertirii: darea de?,
Meta Description: blood donations down, blood banks exhort public to donate.

SEO Keywords: blood donation crisis, blood supply shortage, donate blood, save lives, blood banks.

Article:

The winter season has brought a significant decrease in blood donations, leading to a severe blood shortage in many countries, including Romania. Blood banks are urging the public to donate as soon as possible to avoid a catastrophic blood supply crisis.

Why is there a blood donation crisis?

The decrease in blood donations can be attributed to several factors:

 1. Factors specific to the winter season: Blood donations tend to drop during the winter months due to an increase in seasonal illnesses, such as flu and colds, which discourage individuals from donating. Additionally, the winter holidays can disrupt donation schedules, leading to a decrease in donations.
 2. Pandemic-related challenges: The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the blood shortage by causing many regular donors to postpone their donations due to concerns about their health and that of their families. Furthermore, blood drives in public places have been suspended or reduced, making it difficult for many to donate.
 3. Shortage of volunteer donors: Blood banks rely heavily on volunteer donors to meet demand, but many are not able to donate due to age restrictions, illness, or other factors.

Who is most affected by the blood donation crisis?

The current blood shortage affects vulnerable individuals most, including:

 • Cancer patients: Individuals undergoing cancer treatment often require multiple blood transfusions to manage side effects and infections that arise during chemotherapy.
 • Trauma victims: In severe trauma cases, such as car accidents or other accidents, large amounts of blood may be needed to save the victim’s life.
 • Sickle cell disease patients: People with this genetic blood disorder may require frequent blood transfusions to manage anemia and prevent life-threatening complications.

Urgency of the blood donation crisis

Blood banks worldwide are raising the alarm about the dire situation:

 • In the United States, the American Red Cross has issued an urgent call for blood donations, warning that if current trends continue, it may not have enough blood to meet patient needs.
 • In the United Kingdom, NHS Blood and Transplant has warned of a "very serious situation" due to a significant drop in donations over the past four months.
 • In Romania, the Romanian Society of Hematology and Medical Oncology has stated that the country’s blood supply is at risk of collapse if donation rates do not improve.

How can you help?

To help combat the blood donation crisis, consider the following:

 1. Donate blood: If you are eligible to donate, please do so as soon as possible. Make an appointment at a local blood bank or donation center, or consider organizing a blood drive in your community.
 2. Mobilize others to donate: Encourage friends, family, and colleagues to donate blood as well. Share information about the urgent need for donors on social media and through word of mouth.
 3. Contact your local blood bank: If you have any questions or concerns about donating blood, contact your local blood bank for more information. They can provide guidance on donation eligibility, location, and scheduling.

By taking these steps, you can help ensure that an adequate blood supply is available for those in need.

Legal Expert Values KPK’s Tactics in Tracking Down Suspect Harun Masiku

by Chief Editor December 24, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Prof. Hibnu Nugroho: KPK‘s Hasto Kristiyanto Tersangka Designation Part of corruption-eradication-commission-kpk-still-using-sekjen-pdi-ps-phone-to-investigate-harun-masiku-case/” title=”
Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Still Using Sekjen PDI-P's Phone to Investigate Harun Masiku Case
”>Harun Masiku Probe Strategy

Jakarta, Dec 24 – Prof. Hibnu Nugroho, the Dean of Law at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed), shed light on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)’s designation of Sekjen PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect. Prof. Hibnu believes this move is part of KPK’s strategy to trace the whereabouts of Harun Masiku.

"Perhaps this is part of KPK’s strategy to obtain information about Harun Masiku," Prof. Hibnu said in an interview. "We hope that during the trial, we will gain information about Harun Masiku’s whereabouts – whether he is still alive or not."

Prof. Hibnu added, "This seems to be a legal action aimed at unraveling the mystery surrounding Harun Masiku, as he remains at large."

However, Prof. Hibnu raised questions about the timing of KPK’s announcement regarding the bribery of former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. He pointed out that Wahyu is already free from punishment, and it’s unusual for the designator to be far from the designated.

"Pemberinya ini kan dugaannya dia (Hasto) pemberi, bersama itu (Harun), nah ini memang suatu penegak hukum yang ada mulur-mulur, harusnya kan ketika pemberi sudah diputus ya penerimanya, pertanyaannya kenapa sekarang baru dilakukan seperti ini," said Prof. Hibnu.

He also emphasized the need for KPK to remain professional and wrap up the case soon. "Kasus ini juga belum kadaluwarsa, baru mungkin 3 atau 4 tahun karena delik suap, penyuap dan penerima harus ada. Nggak mungkin penerima udah dihukum masa penyuapnya tidak. Siapa penyuapnya? Nah di sini saya kira harus detail, tapi cuma harus ditegaskan kenapa baru sekarang, kenapa tidak dulu-dulu, kalau kasus-kasus lain kan langsung cluster penerima, dan cluster pemberi gitu," he said.

The KPK named Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect in a case involving corruption related to the manipulation of legislative elections, as per Sprin.Dik/153/DIK.00/01/12/2024. Hasto was charged under Articles 5(1)a or 5(1)b or 13 of the Corruption Eradication Law.

In a separate development, KPK announced Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect in aiding and abetting the escape of Harun Masiku. KPK also clarified Hasto’s role in the scandal, highlighting his involvement in manipulating the electoral list to include Harun Masiku as a candidate.

In the 2019 legislative elections, Harun Masiku obtained 5,878 votes, far less than PDIP’s Rizky Aprilia who got 44,402 votes. Hasto allegedly attempted to hinder Rizky’s chances of becoming an MP by replacing her with Harun Masiku.

Belgium‘s Magical Markets: Brussels‘ Christmas Attractions Dazzle Washington Post Journalist

Bruges and Brussels, two Flemish cities renowned for their illuminated streets and diverse culinary delights, have caught the eye of the Washington Post. Jessica van Dop DeJesus, a journalist for the renowned publication, was particularly enchanted by Brussels’ Christmas offerings.

At the heart of the Belgian capital lies the centrepiece of its winter festivities: a colossal Nordmann spruce tree, measuring a staggering 20 metres, standing proudly on the historic Grand-Place. This artificial marvel is a beacon drawing both locals and tourists from France and the Netherlands to the annual ‘Plaisirs d’Hiver‘ event.

V čeRAMEplaces around the city, including the Stock Exchange and Place Saint-Catherine, are transformed into animated winter wonderlands. Stalls selling niche local produce, traditional Belgian waffles, and warm mulled wine (glühwein) line the streets. The markets are more than just shopping destinations, they’re vibrant hubs hosting concerts, ice-skating rinks, and even curling matches.

As darkness falls and the lights come on, the transformation is nothing short of enchanting. It’s no wonder the Washington Post fell in love with these winter markets, crowning them as must-visit destinations for anyone seeking a taste of authentic European Christmas cheer.
