OR AKIVA, Israel — A deadly wave of criminal violence continued across Israel on Tuesday, marked by two separate vehicle explosions that resulted in two fatalities within a single day.
The latest incident occurred near the Or Akiva interchange on Route 2 in central Israel. At 8:04 p.m., the Magen David Adom emergency service received reports of a vehicle explosion. Medics arrived at the scene to find an unidentified man suffering from multi-system injuries; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Fire and Rescue Services extinguished the blaze caused by the blast, which also ignited a small brush fire in the area. A special fire department investigator has been assigned to examine the site.
This follows an earlier explosion on Tuesday morning in the northern city of Afula, where a man in his 30s was killed. The Israel Police are investigating both incidents as potential assassinations linked to ongoing gang warfare.
These violent events highlight a deepening trend of criminality that has historically impacted Israel’s Arab community but is increasingly affecting Jewish citizens as well. The persistence of these attacks has intensified political pressure on the current government.
Critics have directed significant blame toward National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and the Israel Police, citing a failure to curb the escalating violence. Justice Minister Yariv Levin has faced scrutiny for his refusal to fill dozens of vacant judicial positions, a move that critics argue is hindering law enforcement efforts.
As authorities continue their investigations, the failure to secure judicial appointments and the ongoing gang-related activity may lead to continued public instability. Without a shift in policy or a strengthening of the judicial and law enforcement apparatus, it is likely that concerns regarding the government’s ability to manage this internal security crisis will continue to mount.
