BMKG Predicts Extreme Weather to Continue Until Eid al-Fitr

BMKG Predicts Continued Extreme Weather Until April 2025

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning predicting that extreme weather conditions will persist until early April 2025. BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati emphasized the importance of public awareness, especially during the significant periods of Eid al-Fitr exodus and return.

High Rainfall Despite Dry Season Forecast

While the dry season typically offers relief from heavy rains, the first ten days of April 2025 are expected to bring sudden and intense rainfall events. This prediction comes during a critical time when mass travel is common due to the Eid al-Fitr exodus. Dwikorita Karnawati notes that, “The intensity of rain in several areas is expected to remain high.”

Caution Required Around Sea and Tidal Floods

As many families return home during the Eid homecoming, BMKG advises caution against the risk of sea waves reaching approximately 2 meters in southern Sumatra, southern Java, and East Nusa Tenggara. The full moon phase this month further increases the risk of tidal floods in coastal regions.

Improvement Needed in Drainage Systems

Recent flood incidents, despite a decrease in rainfall intensity compared to previous years, have highlighted significant issues with existing drainage systems and environmental protection, especially in densely populated areas like Jabodetabek. Karnawati states, “Even though the rainfall is not as high as in previous years, the impact is much more severe this year.”

Leveraging Technology for Mitigation

To help mitigate potential risks, BMKG recommends the use of its Infobmkg application. This app provides a weather forecast up to six days in advance and is particularly useful during times of mass movement such as the Eid exodus.

Exploring the Multifaceted Ramadan in Singapore

With just a week until Ramadan begins in 2025, Muslims worldwide, including those in Singapore, are preparing for the holy month that emphasizes fasting, prayer, and community spirit. Although the Islamic calendar follows lunar cycles, leading to different timing each year, the essence of Ramadan remains a pivotal spiritual celebration.

Understanding the Firma Framework of Ramadan Fasting

During Ramadan, adults who are spiritually and physically capable are required to fast from dawn to dusk. This commitment encourages self-discipline, spiritual growth, and empathy towards the less fortunate. The pre-dawn meal, known as sahur, sets the tone for the day, ensuring energy and focus during fasting hours. While dietary specifics are flexible, many adhere to the Prophet Muhammad’s tradition of ending the fast with dates. This not only provides quick energy but also connects the practice to religious traditions.

The Spiritual and Social Objectives of Fasting

The spiritual goals of fasting extend beyond abstaining from sustenance. Ramadan is a period for Muslims to cultivate self-discipline, strengthening their bond with God and fostering empathy by experiencing hunger. This enhanced empathy tends to promote gratitude and mindfulness toward daily blessings and privileges.

Supporting Muslim Peers During Ramadan

Understanding and respecting the fasting tradition is crucial for non-Muslim friends in Singapore during Ramadan. Avoid offering food and beverages to fasting individuals, as it demonstrates respect for their spiritual endeavor. For those not fasting, it’s essential to be respectful and refrain from inquiries about reasons behind their choice, which may be deeply personal or rooted in health conditions.

Rich Cultural Practices in Singaporean Ramadan

Singapore enjoys vibrant Ramadan traditions enriched by its multicultural landscape. Terawih, an additional night prayer performed after the Isha prayer, is central to evening Ramadan practices and is embraced with devotion. Additionally, Ramadan bazaars, notably the bustling Kampoeng Gelam Ramadan Bazaar, offer a delightful blend of culinary delights and cultural experiences, promoting community interaction and festive cheer.

Ramadan’s Culmination: Celebrating Eid

The end of Ramadan ushers in Eid, a joyous time marked by communal prayers, festive dressing, and gatherings. Eid celebrations strengthen family bonds, with the tradition of giving gifts and money, fostering a spirit of generosity and unity. This communal festivity also sets the tone for the upcoming Islamic New Year, binding the community in shared happiness and anticipation of a new beginning.

Respecting their fast by avoiding offerings of food or drinks during fasting hours, being mindful of their energy needs, and expressing curiosity and respect for their experiences can show significant support.

Did You Know?

Did you know? Singapore’s Ramadan bazaars aren’t just about food; they are cultural tapestries, showcasing the diverse culinary and craft traditions of the Muslim world. These events draw thousands annually, contributing significantly to the local tourism appeal.
