Gamemaker EA withdraws ads from fighting game UFC 4 | NOW

Gamemaker Electronic Arts has Sunday nights on Reddit have apologized for the ads posted in MMA game last week UFC 4 were placed. The ads are now removed.

The website Eurogamer first reported on Friday that people were complaining about ads in the game, which has been on the market for a month. It was an almost screen-sized ad for an Amazon series, which was pasted over a replay of a match.

According to EA, this is not the first time the company has placed ads in a UFC game. In the past, however, these were only placed in the menu. UFC 4 costs 60 euros in the shop.

The ire of fans turned out to be so great that EA is now withdrawing the ads. “It’s clear that the integration of ads into replays and across the screen is undesirable,” said EA.

Another EA trouble, Madden 21 is the worst rated game on Metacritic

Under normal circumstances, we would not write about the Madden American football simulator at all, after all, the number of fans of this sport is negligible in our region. This year is an exception, unfortunately not in a positive sense.

On Steam, where only people who have actually played the game can rate, Madden has a rating of 45%.

Electronic Arts managed a really hussar stunt, when they managed to replace the unsuccessful remake of Warcraft 3 in the position of the worst-rated game on Metacritic (we wrote here). For the playstation version of Madden, 21 games are lit. for user evaluation currently a score of 0.3 averaged out of almost 2,500 individual ratings.

Of course, virtually all games from EA face after release review bombingu, but usually there are enough fans who can pull the rating at least somewhere to three points. This time there are only 19 positive reactions.

It took me a while to find in the user “reviews” some stronger arguments than “it’s a waste” and “I hate Electronic Arts”, in the end I came to the conclusion that the main reasons for the audience’s sharply negative reaction are two.

The first is that there is only a minimal change and Madden 21 is at the core the same game as last year. The second argument is the allegedly uneaten economy of the game, which draws more money from players on the principle of gambling. So basically the same arguments that can be made against any EA Sports game in the last ten years. It can be assumed that the same fate awaits this year’s FIFA and NHL Games.

Mafia, Doom and Age of Empires 3. Gamescom spewed a lot of it

The introductory show was preceded by the so-called “pre-show”, where the first trailers began to pour on us. We saw new shots from the already introduced action games Scarlet Nexus a Quantum Error. Next we are on Dirt 5 they learned that they would also be able to design their own tracks. The simulator of the construction of an amusement park with dinosaurs will also visit Switch Jurassic World Evolution, which we know from 2018.

Moderator Geoff Keighley then welcomed us into the show itself, saying that this year’s Gamescom is completely different from the previous ones, as it is usually a physical fair in Cologne, Germany. He also tried to control expectations a bit in advance, because the live online show was supposed to be in the spirit of already introduced titles rather than some shocking news that would take players’ breath away. But there were a few surprises.

The main show started new Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold Warwhile next to already recently published of the story trailer, we also learned that the game will try to proceed in a non-linear way, both in the story (different choices will lead to different ends) and in the game itself. We can look forward to more open maps with different ways to complete missions, side tasks and also the opportunity to create your own character. A more detailed multiplayer unveiling awaits us in September.

This was immediately followed by fresh news in the form of Unknown 9: Awakening, which the authors describe as a “next-gen story adventure” to be the first in a completely new series. The game contains elements of the supernatural (such as time manipulation) and takes place in Calcutta, India. However, the release date remained unknown.

If you have already finished Doom Eternal and you are looking forward to his first DLC, then you can watch the new trailer on The Ancient Gods Part One, which means we will see more parts. You will be able to play a fresh taste of the hell massacre on October 20.

Another major surprise is the announcement of a new one Dragon Age from BioWare, but that’s about all we know about the upcoming title. The presentation was in the spirit of vague hints from its authors, and we must rather think about whether it will be another part, a restart of the whole series or something conceptually completely new. In any case, the game is still in the early stages of development.

The first of the rather strange announcements was served to us by Dr. himself. Brown from Return to the Future (81-year-old actor Christopher Lloyd), which subsequently resulted in a new trailer for Surgeon Simulator 2 and its possibilities of cooperation in multiple players. Another peculiarity in the form followed Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead. Yes, that’s right, we’re going to build bridges for zombies. A pleasant surprise was the announcement of the return of the series Sam and Max with the subtitle Returns !, but for virtual reality. But the authors did not reveal more.

This was followed by a sample clip from the animated miniseries Afterlives (more info), which takes place in the world of World of Warcraft and reveals the story of the Shadowlands expansion, which also knows the release date: October 27. Warcraft was followed by a new one Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Stormgroundwhich should come out next year.

We also saw new details from Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, specifically about new items called “flashback tapes”, which will be distributed in the various levels of the game and your goal will be to get to them without a single loss of life. Once you get it, you will unlock special levels, which will be extremely difficult and will take place in the story before the original Crash from 1996.

A whirlwind of smaller titles followed. First we were introduced to a fantasy shooter Outriders, which reminds us a bit of Borderlands, was basically followed by such game ads for the just released battle royal Hyperscape from Ubisoft, as well as Japanese action football Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions and also action Necromundia: Underhive Wars, which will be released on September 8.

It looks quite interesting then Teardown, which is the work of two developers, which to some extent resembles Minecraft, but with the difference that it focuses on the full destructibility of the whole world. You can break down walls with a car, blast away the roofs of houses with dynamite and more, and at the same time it looks like you will also perform tasks such as bank robbery in the game.

They were also reminded Little Nightmares 2, which we first saw at last year’s Gamescom. There are still half a year left until the release, they should be released on February 11. Wrestling fans will get their money’s worth again WWE 2K Battlegrounds, which comes out on September 18.

Star Wars games were given a long segment. First we could take a closer look at Squadrons, a sci-fi space pilot simulator. The authors told us that during the game we will control two characters from both sides of the conflict between the New Republic and the Galactic Empire, and reminded us that the whole game will be available in virtual reality.

Fans will also see the world of Star Wars The Sims 4. In an extension named Star Wars: Journey to Batuu they will be able to beautify their virtual homes in the style of this sci-fi saga, fight each other with lightsabers or court the soldiers of the Empire. The extension will be available on September 8.

An interesting story game was also mentioned 20 Minutes, which received a stellar cast with names like James MacAvoy, Daisy Ridley or Willem Dafoe, but we still don’t have much other specific information about the game otherwise, including the release date. New trailers followed on Godfall, also a reminder of the new expansion into Warframe: Heart of Deimos and a threshing machine with robots Override 2.

We also saw a new trailer on Mafia: Definitive Edition and we feel more and more that it will really be a much different game than the one from 2002. An action game followed Lemnis Gate with a relatively original concept of 25 second moves, in which you can change what you did in the last move, after which your opponent can react anyway.

We return to Star Wars with an arch, because she was reminded LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagawhere you will be able to recall all 9 parts of this series in the style of Lego cubes. The collection will of course also be released on the next-gen console in the spring of next year. Gamescom then reminds us that a very special indie game called has just been released Struggling.

The surprise is then Age Of Empires 3: Definitive Edition, again 4K remaster of the famous strategy. Two new modes and two factions are also coming into play: the Swedes and the Incas. The game will include multiplayer across all available platforms. We’ll see you pretty soon, October 15, and the title will, of course, be part of your Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription.

There follows another whirlwind of demonstrations, specifically on the horror title The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, which will be released on October 30, a reminder of the races just released Project Cars 3, as well as strategic Wasteland 3 and we also saw new footage from the sci-fi game Chorus. However, we will not see that until next year.

The big moment of the Gamescom opening show was the announcement of the second season, which was so popular Fall Guys, where a new medieval stylization of characters awaits us, as well as new levels in which you will have to cooperate, for example, in creating ramps to pass through elevated gates.

An interesting example was also prepared Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, which will be specially designed for virtual reality only. The game looks very interesting and we are glad that the developers are embarking on full-fledged VR titles, but the disappointment is the fact that this novelty will only be available for Oculus headsets. Virtual reality is already quite a marginal issue and inventing exclusive titles for individual models is already quite bizarre.

We are nearing the end and again we are being reminded of almost finished titles, such as the new multiplayer action fantasy Spellbreakwhich will be released on September 3 and will be free to download. It is also mentioned Destiny 2 and its new extension Beyond Lightwhich we will see on November 10th.

Finally, we can see an unabridged version of the game demo from Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apartwhich we have already seen in part at the Sony conference. The whole thing seems to us like an advertisement for a fast SSD, which the PlayStation 5 will have at its disposal. This is followed by a surprise at the very end, namely that this game will be released in close proximity to the release of the PlayStation 5, which we can interpret as about three months after the release of the new console.

And that’s all, the moderator’s warning came true and this year’s Gamescom opening show was really not about new blockbusters, but rather about more detailed views of already introduced titles. Nevertheless, some interesting news were found.

FIFA 21: “toxic” celebrations withdrawn and shorter online break times

We now know almost all new gameplay of FIFA 21, detailed in length and width by EA Sports. And for those who would like the short version, a trailer summarizing the new features and changes was unveiled this week. EA Sports has, however, provided for other modifications intended to reduce toxic behavior.

Already, on the celebrations side, it was decided to withdraw gestures Chute and OK, obviously overused by trolls. For the last, it is its racist connotation which could have been debated, as it was already the case in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. But overall, EA Sports wants to prevent players from getting annoyed while playing FIFA 21 online. That is why it was also decided to reduce the time allocated to stopped phases : you will now have 10 seconds for the kick-off, 12 seconds for a throw-in, 15 seconds for a relief, a corner or a penalty, and 20 seconds for a free kick.

Likewise, in a network, several animations will be removed automatically, such as returning to midfield after scoring or walking to the ball in touch and setting up the ball with relief, while the duration of the celebrations themselves will be shortened. Add that a job done so that the end of a half is whistled in a more logical way at the end of added time, and removed collisions with the hands, forearms and shoulders to avoid unintentional contact, and you get great initiatives that should delight the community.

“The community told us there was some toxic behavior in the game and we wanted to make sure we removed it,” gameplay producer Sam Rivera told Eurogamer. “So we took away some of the celebrations that people thought wasn’t the best idea to have in the game. The pace is more dense, which is to try to keep you playing most of the time instead of waiting. Overall, the intention is just to keep you playing instead of doing other things that may not be necessary in the game. ”

The release date of FIFA 21, it’s out October 9 on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch, three days earlier if you buy special edition, and later on PS5, Xbox Series X and Stadia.

In the corona crisis, computer games are booming like never before

Dusseldorf The World Health Organization (WHO) has just published an unexpected appeal: Those who feel alone due to the exit restrictions during the corona crisis should play computers with friends – connected at a safe distance via the Internet. “Play apart together” is the motto of a campaign through which the authority wants to reach people together with large game manufacturers such as Activision and Riot Games.

This is a huge boost to the industry’s image. Ironically, the WHO, which recognized computer game addiction as a disease last year and has received massive criticism in the scene, recommends games as a remedy for boredom and isolation. This applies above all to multiplayer titles in which many users play together or against each other over the Internet, whether on the virtual soccer field in “Fifa 20” or the battlefield in “Fortnite”.

Not that it needed this recommendation. With millions of people staying at home worldwide in the face of the corona pandemic, the use of computer games is increasing rapidly. At the end of March, the Internet node De-Cix in Frankfurt announced that the number of users of online and cloud games had doubled within a week. According to market researchers, the purchase of software is also growing strongly.

Nevertheless, the mood at many companies is subdued. Some studios are faced with the question of how to keep to schedules, given the exit restrictions – this is particularly important because the new Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles will be launched at the end of the year.

Others fear that with the economic downturn, demand will collapse. According to a survey by the Game Association, almost two thirds (62 percent) of German providers expect that the economic environment will deteriorate.

The game lobby therefore demands support beyond the regular state funding. “At the moment a lot of people are playing, many platforms are setting records. At the same time, however, companies are already threatened with financial difficulties, ”says Felix Falk, chairman of the Game Association.

Always high on Steam

A closer look reveals that the pandemic will have very different effects on the various providers in the game market. In an analysis, the renowned gaming expert Pier Harding-Rolls formulated the expectation that the corona crisis would accelerate the trend from physical gaming media to digital games and game enhancements.

A good barometer for the use of computer games is the Steam platform, through which you can buy titles and play directly – like an app store for smartphones. For many users, it is the most important point of contact for getting new content. Provider Valve reported 24.5 million online users at the same time, of whom 8.2 million were playing – an all-time high. Individual titles such as “Counter Strike: Global Offensive” attracted more than a million at the same time.

Players not only download more titles, they also spend more time doing it. “57 percent of German video gamers state that they spend significantly more time playing video games than they did before Corona,” explains Michael Heina, who heads up e-sports activities in Europe at the market research company Nielsen. The purchase of digital objects within the games has also increased recently. So people use the extra time for games – and also spend money on them.

At the same time, computer game fans are spending more and more time watching e-sports, ie competitions in games such as “League of Legends”, “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” or “Starcraft 2”. In recent years, worldwide tournament and league operations between professional teams have been established. The live events that operators use to fill entire sports arenas are currently canceled, but millions of people watch online.

Platforms such as Twitch and Youtube are benefiting from an increasing number of viewers, as are providers such as ESL, which organize competitions. “We can also hold the tournaments online without anyone having to travel,” reports the Cologne-based company, which is the world’s largest independent league operator. “We are currently doing this and are achieving record numbers of viewers.”

The company Riot Games, which organizes its own professional leagues for the e-sports top title “League of Legends”, has recently reported a ten percent increase in audience. “People want and need entertainment, new content and a feeling of connectedness more than ever,” explains Alberto Guerrero, head of the European e-sports department. The e-sports are in a unique position to be able to offer this spectator sport without a physical presence.

Market researchers speculate that the corona crisis could benefit virtual sports in the long term. “In the current situation, it would be possible that there is a kind of ‘baby boom’ in e-sports, since the group of gamers is currently growing,” explains Nielsen analyst Heina. In other words: If you are interested in video games, you will increasingly watch them as a spectator in competition format.

As long as the exit restrictions apply and other leisure activities outside the home are not possible, the boom should continue. That should also be true for listed game providers like Activision, Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive have a positive effect, as the investment bank Piper wrote in a note for customers – analogous to other companies in the “Stay at Home” category such as Netflix, Zoom or Peloton.

Bottlenecks Nintendo

The corona crisis also brings with it some uncertainties for the games industry. Firstly, this concerns hardware production: in China and other East Asian countries such as Vietnam, the production of electronic products has been idle for weeks. Now, for example, Nintendo has problems supplying fans with the Switch console. Particularly annoying: Many fans of the “Animal Crossing” series are currently trying to buy the hardware in order to be able to play the new episode “New Horizons”.

The competitors Sony and Microsoft emphasize that they will launch their new Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles on time this year despite the production problems. To what extent, however, is not clear. Delivery is important for companies: a new generation of hardware traditionally gives them a boost in sales.

Second, there is the question of how companies program the new software. The providers have had to temporarily close many locations, most of their employees are in their home office – according to a survey by the computer games association Game, 87 percent of companies in Germany use this option. As a result, some titles are delayed, “The Outer Worlds” for the Nintendo Switch comes later, for example, it should be similar for others.

The video game giant Ubisoft for example, cannot yet assess the consequences of the pandemic: “Our company has studios at more than 40 locations worldwide, which are affected by exit restrictions one after the other and to different extents,” says Ubisoft manager Ralf Wirsing. 90 percent of the studios would currently work from their home office. “We still cannot say what that means for productivity.”

The market research company Newzoo sees no fundamental problem. “We do not expect the outbreak to have a significant impact on the development of game software,” wrote it in a first analysis at the end of March – even if there could be a slight impairment in efficiency. However, as with so many expert statements, the following applies here: there are few certainties in the corona crisis.

Third, the contact blocks make marketing much more difficult. Several conferences and trade fairs have already been canceled. Gamescom, which was planned for Cologne at the end of August, is to take place exclusively digitally after the ban on major events has been extended.

However, the organizers already announced at the end of March that they would like to organize Gamescom at least digitally and including the congress over the full duration. What is missing are the back room deals – and the audience.

From the Game’s point of view, a failure is critical, not only because the association itself is the sponsor of the fair: The event is one of the most important dates for the international games industry because the games for the particularly important Christmas business are presented there, says Felix Falk . Many games are playable for the public for the first time. “This makes Gamescom the decisive event for marketing and sales of the games companies in the second half of the year.”

For the game developers, it is not just about sales: they usually find their partners at the trade fair. Therefore, uncertainty spreads. “There are no events, no networking, no trust building,” says Johannes Roth, CEO at the game developer Mimimi Productions.

What will happen to Gamescom?

Fourth, it is unclear how the economic crisis will affect demand. Large companies may get through the crisis well, but independent developers, service providers, specialist media and retailers could face problems – their work is currently less in demand.

The situation is particularly difficult for game developers who have not yet established themselves. For example Michel Wacker from Gentle Troll: He wanted to secure the financing for his new console game Under Down at the “Reboot Develop Blue” conference in Dubrovnik in April and at the “Nordic Game” in Malmö in May.

The problem: The prototype needed to be explained and the promise of partial funding from FFF Bayern was conditional on the fact that he would find another partner by November. “With many publishers, we can now only send in our documents without comment,” says Wacker of the situation. “When you do this for the first time, you easily go under during the move to your home office.” The contact with some publishers was simply broken.

Wacker’s experience confirms the forecasts of expert Pier Harding-Rolls: The cancellation of the game conferences will likely hit smaller game developers and publishers more than big ones. So far, Wacker has hoped for Gamescom, which would have come just in time for him. The future of his game is now more uncertain than ever.
