Meloni Meets Trump: Italian PM Paying Unofficial Visit to US President-Elect in Florida
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has made an unexpected, unofficial visit to meet with US President-elect Donald Trump in Florida, her office confirmed on Sunday. The right-wing leader’s trip was marked by a series of photos showing her and Trump posing at Mar-a-Lago and engaging in conversation in a reception room, with a Christmas tree visible in the background.
Meloni was also photographed meeting with Florida Senator Marco Rubio, whom she thanked for his hospitality on social media. The Saturday visit included a movie screening and dinner, according to American media reports. Trump described Meloni as a "fantastic woman" who has "conquered Europe," according to US journalists present.
The documentary screened was "Eastman Dilemma: Lawfare or Justice," featuring Trump’s former lawyer Sidney Powell, who argues that the US legal system is biased. Meloni joins other international leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, in visiting Trump ahead of his inauguration on January 20.
Ahead of her meeting with Biden later this month, Meloni’s visit highlights the complex geopolitical dynamics at play, as the US seeks to maintain its global influence and Europe watches closely.
