Abolishment of 20% Nomination Threshold: A New Path for Indonesian Presidential Candidacy” OR “No More 20% Barrier: A New Road to Indonesian Presidency

by Chief Editor January 2, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Constitutional Court Strikes Down Presidential Threshold for Election Candidates

Article:

In a landmark decision, Indonesia’s Constitutional Court (MK) has abolished the controversial 20% threshold of parliamentary seats or 25% of the national valid votes as a prerequisite for presidential candidates and their running mates. The MK, led by its Chairman Suhartoyo, announced this ruling in the Permata Building on Thursday (2/1/2025), granting all participating political parties an equal opportunity to propose presidential candidates.

The court justified its decision by declaring that the aforementioned criteria in Law No. 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections contravene the 1945 Indonesian Constitution and thus lack legal binding force. The MK further proposed that the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) and the government revisit and amend this law accordingly.

In its ruling, the MK reasoned that the threshold system has proven ineffective in simplifying the number of participating political parties in elections. Moreover, the MK highlighted that the existing threshold favours parties already represented in the House. Saldi Isra, Vice-Chairman of the MK, expressed concerns that the retention of such a threshold could lead to calamitous consequences, including presidential elections with only one candidate or uncontested booths.

The MK advised the DPR and the government to reconsider the existing rules, suggesting that the proposal of presidential candidates should no longer be based on the threshold system. As a deterrent, the MK proposed that political parties that choose not to nominate candidates could face sanctions, including disqualification from the next presidential election.

"Partai politik peserta pemilu, sepanjang telah dinyatakan sebagai peserta pemilu, dapat mengusulkan pasangan calon Presiden dan Wakil Presiden," said Saldi, adding that the number of proposed candidates could potentially equal the number of participating parties.

This ruling, brought upon by case number 62/PUU-XXI/2023, has opened up new avenues in Indonesia’s electoral landscape, ushering in an era of greater inclusivity and equality for all participating parties.

Prabowo Seeks 50-Year Sentence for Harvey, MA: Awaiting Appeal Ruling

Prospects of Prabowo’s Presidential Bid Strengthen amid Harvey Moeis’ Conviction

President Prabowo Subianto‘s prospects for the 2029 presidential election have bolstered after the recent conviction of Harvey Moeis, a key suspect in the billion-dollar ransomware case, President Joko Widodo‘s administration. Prabowo, who has been vocal about the government’s handling of corruption cases, hailed the prosecution’s efforts but maintained that the sentence was too lenient.

On Monday (4/1/2025), MA Communication Spokesman Yanto revealed that MA had not yet received the Harvey’s defense team’s counterargument. Therefore, the 2024 Year End vonis remains pending. Previously, Harvey’s defense team argued that their client was duped by his accomplices and only received a small portion of the ransom.

Prabowo, who had initially praised the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for its efforts in prosecuting Harvey, later expressed disappointment with the 2024 Year End vonis. Prabowo argued that the sentence did not serve as a sufficient deterrent for other corruptors.

"Smesh," responsibility in the eyes of the law should equal to the crime committed. The people have a right to know the truth behind the crimes that affect them," Prabowo said in June 2024**.

Harvey, a 38-year-old businessman from Bogor, West Java, was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for his role in the 2023 Indonesia Ransomware Attack, which resulted in the loss of Rp. 3 trillion ($200 million) from various state-owned enterprises. The prosecution had asked for a sentence of 7 years in prison.

Key Words: Prabowo Subianto, 2029 presidential election, Harvey Moeis, Indonesia Ransomware Attack, corruption cases, Joko Widodo, Jakarta.

Prabowo’s Bid: Half-Century Sentences for Convicted Corruptors

President Prabowo Calls for Harsher Penalties for Corruptors: A Spectrum of Reactions

President Prabowo Subianto has sparked a swirl of reactions, particularly from his supporters, after calling for corruptors to face half-a-century in prison. Prabowo made these remarks at the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) in Central Jakarta, amidst the Musrenbangnas RPJMN 2025-2029 event on Monday (30/12/2024).

"I hope if it’s clear, clear that they’ve broken the law, clear they’ve caused trillions in losses, then all parties involved, especially the judges, don’t give them too lenient a sentence," Prabowo said. He then summoned Minister of Immigration and Former Prisoners Agus Adrianto and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, urging the latter to file an appeal and, if possible, impose a 50-year sentence.

Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Yudi Purnomo echoed Prabowo’s sentiments. He believed that corruptors deserve the death penalty and lifetime imprisonment. "Those who engage in corruption worthy of the death penalty should be given the death penalty and seized of all their ill-gotten wealth," Yudi said via a short message to detikcom.

Yudi agreed with Prabowo’s proposal to sentence corruptors to 50 years in prison, asserting that such harsh penalties would deter others from committing similar offenses. He criticized the six-and-a-half-year jail term imposed on Harvey Moeis in the case involving corruption and the loss of trillions of rupiah due to illegal mining activities. Yudi disseminated information that the change in penal atrocity laws could permit the death penalty for corruptors who exploit national disasters and economic crises to line their pockets.

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) swiftly responded to Prabowo’s statement, expressing their solidarity. Kapuspenkum Kejagung RI Harli Siregar stated, "Of course, we fully support the President’s statement. We are taking immediate action, as we have already lodged an appeal regarding the six-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Harvey Moeis."

Harli emphasized that the AGO is proceeding with the appeal process according to existing regulations under the Corruption Crime Law (Tipikor). "We should adhere to the rule of law, and as operational stakeholders, we must enforce the existing regulations," he clarified.

Adding her voice to the conversation, DPR’s Komisi III Fraksi PAN member Endang Agustina weighed in, expressing support for Prabowo’s stance. "Prabowo’s statement is a reflection of the sentiments of the Indonesian people who are tirelessly fighting against corruption," she declared.

Endang hopes that corruptors will receive maximum sentences proportionate to their misdeeds. She emphasized the crucial role of the judiciary in delivering impartial verdicts and becoming the last line of defense against corruption.

Erick Thinks Closure of KRL Karet Station: The Reason Behind

by Chief Editor January 1, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Indonesian Minister Hints at Closing Karet Station Amid KAI’s Efforts to Boost Kereta Bandara’s Performance

In a recent inspection of the Kereta Bandara (train to the airport) service, Indonesian Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Erick Thohir, inadvertently touched on plans to shut down Stasiun Karet, a train station serving Commuter Line (KRL) passengers. The minister made this revelation following his assessment of the Kereta Bandara service from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Stasiun BNI City.

Initially, Minister Thohir discussed the suboptimal performance of the Kereta Bandara service, which currently serves around 1.5 million passengers annually, falling short of its potential 10 million passenger target. To address this, he suggested improvements within the overall train system infrastructure, using the proposed closure of Stasiun Karet as an example due to its proximity to other KRL stations.

"For instance, we might close down Karet Station, just like we’re discussing how to optimize our system," Minister Thohir stated at Stasiun BNI City in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, January 1, 2024.

Rudi As Aturridha, Director of Business Development and Governance at PT KAI, confirmed the minister’s hints, stating that Stasiun Karet’s closeness to Stasiun BNI City makes it redundant. "People going to Karet can just walk, as we’ve already provided direct services to BNI City, making traffic more efficient," Rudi explained.

While the exact timeline for the closure remains unclear, Rudi mentioned that it hinges on the release of the 2025 Graphical Path Plan (Gapeka) for trains. Alongside this, plans are also underway to extend the Kereta Bandara’s route to Stasiun Sudirman, aiming to attract more users by reducing travel times and improving connectivity with Light Rail Transit (LRT) services.

To boost Kereta Bandara’s appeal, PT KAI is implementing dynamic pricing and progressive tariffs, targeting to increase its ridership to 20% of Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s 56 million annual passengers, around 11.2 million passengers. The extension to Stasiun Sudirman will allow passengers from LRT services to access the Kereta Bandara directly, reducing their walking distance. Furthermore, the journey time between Stasiun BNI City and Stasiun Bandara Soetta is expected to be cut from the current 50 minutes to under 40 minutes.

Ahok Teases Mystery Involving Anies Baswedan, Opens Door to Possible Meeting

In a recent turn of events, former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok, has hinted at a surprise related to Anies Baswedan that’s set to unfold soon. Ahok has left the door open for a potential meeting with Anies, but details remain scarce.

Initially tight-lipped about politics, Ahok(color]{"https://www.detik.com/tag/ahok"}, when pressed about the enigmatic announcement involving Anies(color]{"https://www.detik.com/tag/anies-baswedan"}, merely responded, "I won’t discuss politics."

However, Ahok later conceded that a meetup with Anies is a possibility, following their recent encounter at the Bentang Harapan JakASA event held at Jakarta’s City Hall. The former governor remained vague about the specifics of their next rendezvous, simply stating, "We’ll see."

Their public interaction at the New Year’s event sparked curiosity, with the duo seen engaged in hushed conversation. When asked about their whispered exchange, both leaders played coy.

"It’s a secret," Ahok teased, evading the question. Anies, meanwhile, playfully deflected by saying, "You’ll just have to wait and see. It’s a surprise!"

Facts About Penis Fractures: Causes and Symptoms You Should Know

by Chief Editor January 1, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Title: The Surprising Cause Behind a ‘Broken’ Penis: A Urologist’s Explanation

In the realm of sexual health, one of the most intriguing yet rarely discussed conditions is penile fracture, or ‘broken penis syndrome’. While often associated with traumatic injuries, a common misconception is that this condition primarily affects those engaged in high-impact sports. However, specialists warn that the bedroom is the most frequent scene of this unusual sexual health issue.

What is Penile Fracture?

Dr. Adhitama Alam Soeroto, a Specialist Urologist from the National Central General Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta, clarifies that penile fracture is not an actual bone break. Instead, it’s a tear in the tunica albuginea, the tough, fibrous layers protecting the corpus cavernosum – the sponge-like tissue that fills with blood during an erection.

Symptoms: More Than Just Pain

When this tissue tears, it leads to severe pain, immediately followed by the penis becoming larger and more flaccid, explains Dr. Adhitama. "Imagine your penis is still quite large, but it’s suddenly soft and swollen," he says, underscoring the dramatic change in both sensation and appearance.

The Unexpected Culprits

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just rough sports that put the penis at risk. Dr. Adhitama reveals that penile fracture often occurs during specific sexual positions; surprisingly, it’s not always the woman on top. "Research has found that male-dominant positions, like man-on-top and doggy style, have a higher risk," he says, attributing this to the potential for the penis to bend unusually during intense moments.

Moreover, age plays a significant role. Young adults experiencing their peak sexual activity have a higher chance of encountering this issue due to their increased sexual encounters and vigor.

Next: Navigating a Penile Fracture

While it might seem alarming, prompt medical intervention can help prevent lasting complications. Stay tuned for our next article: "When Pene’s World Comes Crashing Down: What to Do When You Have a Penile Fracture".

"Prabowo’s Defense Budget Reignited: Sri Mulyani’s Impact as Minister of Defense"

by Chief Editor December 30, 2024
written by Chief Editor

President Prabowo Emphasizes Budget Cuts, Asks for Understanding

Jakarta, Dec 30 (ISA/EVA) – President Prabowo Subianto once again stressed the importance of budget cuts, apologizing to ministries and institutions that didn’t receive their anticipated allocations. Speaking during the Coordinating Meeting for National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029 at the Bappenas Building in Jakarta, Prabowo acknowledged the challenging situation.

"Please understand that there are priorities, and thus some ministries and institutions may not receive the budget they anticipated," Prabowo said. He urged them to support the financial constraints, hoping not to disrupt Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani’s work.

Prabowo recounted his experiences as Minister of Defense when he faced similar constraints from then-Finance Minister Sri Mulyani. He also shared a story about his predecessor, Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, who faced budgetary challenges. Prabowo acknowledged the significance of defense but emphasized the importance of education, infrastructure, and other sectors.

"I had to think carefully about national defense, but children need to eat, don’t they? Educators deserve better wages, and judges should have decent housing. We cannot have judges living under bad conditions," Prabowo stated, referencing a recent ruling on a high-profile corruption case.
