Prabowo Says No Intervention From SBY, Jokowi: ‘I’m the One Who Asks for Advice’

by Chief Editor February 25, 2025
written by Chief Editor

The Balance of Power: Indonesia’s Political Dynamics

In recent Indonesian political history, the dynamic interactions between former and current presidents have come under scrutiny. Prabowo Subianto, the current president, recently addressed concerns about potential interventions by former presidents Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Joko Widodo (“Jokowi”) into his administration. Refuting these allegations, Prabowo claimed he actively sought advice from these experienced leaders, not vice versa.

Wisdom from Experience

Prabowo emphasizes the value of learning from predecessors, asserting, “Only a fool doesn’t learn from these two figures.” Such a stance highlights a pragmatic approach to governance, leveraging the insights from both SBY and Jokowi, who each led Indonesia for over a decade.

Jokowi’s Influence: A Closer Look

Reports have pointed to numerous instances where Jokowi intervened in the new administration. His actions were geared toward ensuring a smooth political transition and continuity in national projects, particularly the ambitious relocation of Indonesia’s capital to East Kalimantan.

Jokowi’s proposals for his successor’s cabinet and budget allocations underscore an involvement focused on fostering policy continuity. However, discussions sparked by these actions suggest debates over presidential influence and political integrity.

Capitulating to a New Vision?

Jokowi’s purported efforts to influence the People’s Consultative Assembly’s stance on historical figures highlight the intricate maneuvering in political narratives and national identity. This move could pave the way for debate on Indonesia’s historical legacy.

What the Experts Say

Interventions by former presidents can both stabilize and complicate political transitions. Case studies from global politics show that balancing advice with autonomy is key to a smooth handover and policy continuity.

Future Trends: What Lies Ahead?

The interplay between past and present leadership in Indonesia may continue to shape the country’s political landscape. Emerging trends suggest emerging narratives around leadership styles and governance might steer public discourse.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Did Prabowo seek advice from former presidents? Yes, Prabowo claimed he sought input from former presidents Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo, not the other way around.
  • What was Jokowi’s role in the new government? Jokowi proposed names for cabinet positions and sought to ensure continuity in national projects including the capital city relocation.
  • Does influencing politicians’ decisions violate principles? While interventions can stabilize transitions, they should align with democratic principles to maintain legitimacy.

Did you know? Political continuity can be a double-edged sword, promoting stability while potentially stifling innovation in policies.

The Influence of Political Affiliations on Presidential Speeches

In recent political landscapes, the interplay between political leaders and their affiliations can have a significant impact on presidential speeches. A case in point is President Joko Widodo’s recent engagement at the Golkar Party’s 60th anniversary event. His presence, alongside other influential figures, illustrates how political alliances shape discourse in significant public forums. Such events signal emerging trends where political leaders emphasize cooperative governance, reflecting broader national unity strategies.

Political Maneuvering and Public Messaging

During these gatherings, speeches often carry themes directed by political strategists to resonate with the masses. President Jokowi’s speech at Golkar’s anniversary highlighted political maneuvers that could potentially sway public opinion and voter bases. We see a trend in utilizing public events to strengthen political ties and assure alignment on national issues. This is underscored by tactical messaging that aligns with public sentiment and party ethos.

Presidential Travel Plans and Foreign Policy

President Widodo’s busy travel schedule, including upcoming visits to South Africa, Rwanda, and Namibia, suggests a future trend in diplomatic outreach and foreign relations strengthening. These visits are pivotal in fortifying bilateral relationships and boosting economic, trade, and cultural exchanges. Such strategic travels can also be perceived as a soft power approach, enhancing Indonesia’s global standing.

The Role of Economic Diplomacy in Bilateral Relations

Economic diplomacy is becoming central in shaping Indonesian foreign policy, highlighted by President Jokowi’s emphasis on trade during his travels. Real-life examples like the recent collaboration agreements with African nations illustrate how these diplomatic efforts translate into tangible benefits such as investment opportunities and partnership in infrastructure projects.

Impacts of Rural Infrastructure Development

The Trillion Village initiative under President Jokowi is set to become a benchmark for rural infrastructure development across nations. The ambitious project aims to spur socioeconomic growth by parallelly focusing on digitalization and building community resilience. Embedding ICT infrastructure in rural areas could redefine local economies, fostering inclusivity and innovation.

Case Studies in Technology-Driven Rural Development

Case studies in places like Huguang, Indonesia, show the positive impacts of technology integration in rural areas. By offering digital tools and training, rural populations gain better access to markets and employability opportunities. This initiative aligns with global trends pushing for digital transformation as a means to bridge the urban-rural divide.

Renewable Energy Advancements in Government Infrastructure

The move towards sustainability is driving changes in government building designs, as evidenced by the new Presidential Palace’s use of renewable energy. This trend aligns with global efforts to mitigate climate change by embedding sustainable practices in public building projects. Indonesia’s commitment lays the groundwork for future energy policies focused on reducing carbon footprints.

The Future of Sustainable Architecture in Government Facilities

Globally, government entities are reevaluating infrastructure choices to prioritize renewable energy solutions. This shift is transformative, promoting environmental consciousness within the public sector. Evidence of such advances can be seen in international precedents like the green public buildings in Europe, which significantly reduce energy consumption and costs.

Technology’s Role in Public Health Policy

The integration of technology in public health, such as President Jokowi’s digitized Health Care Cards in Tangerang, is an indicator of a broader shift towards data-driven policy-making. It reflects a future trend where digital health records become integral to personalizing and optimizing healthcare delivery.

Enhancing Health Outcomes through Digital Innovations

With digital health innovations, policies can leverage real-time data for more informed decision-making, ultimately improving patient outcomes. The use of advanced analytics ensures that health interventions are timely and targeted, a crucial aspect as global health challenges become more complex.

Jokowi on Sea Fence Polemic: Investigate the Legal Process

by Chief Editor January 24, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Investigating Legal Procedures in Land Certification: A Closer Look

President Jokowi emphasized the importance of verifying legal procedures in the issuance of land ownership certificates, known as HGB and SHM. With allegations of misconduct and irregularities, this scrutiny aims to maintain integrity within the system. Uncovering any lapses could lead to significant reforms in how these certifications are processed, ensuring legal compliance and protecting citizens’ rights.

Legal Checkpoints: District to National Level

The process involves several levels of checks, starting at the sub-district and progressing through district and national offices. This multi-tier approach ideally guarantees accuracy and legality, but recent events have called this process into question. For instance, in Tangerang and East Java, discrepancies have led both central authorities and local offices to reevaluate previously issued certificates, demonstrating the ongoing need for transparency and due diligence.

Impacts of Certificate Irregularities Beyond Tangerang

The issues are not confined to one area; they extend to Bekasi, East Java, and other regions. Acknowledging these widespread challenges suggests a systemic issue that requires comprehensive investigation and strategy to address. The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning’s move to annul approximately 50 certificates is a clear signal that the integrity of these processes is under scrutiny.

Corruption Concerns in Sea Fence Issuance

Amid these legal investigations, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has begun examining allegations related to the issuance of SHM certificates linked to sea fences. The stakes are high, as these inquiries could reveal systemic corruption affecting not just land and property rights, but also coastal environment management and public safety.

Case Studies and Data Points

For example, a recent report from the KPK highlights several companies entangled in irregular land certification claims. These findings underscore the need for stricter oversight and public accountability in issuing such certificates.

Ensuring Transparency: Joint Action

Agencies are collaborating to dismantle unauthorized sea fences as part of their investigative efforts. This action not only tackles immediate infringements but also sends a strong message about regulatory compliance. The collaboration between various entities is a significant step toward establishing a more transparent and accountable framework.

FAQ: Understanding Certification Processes

What are HGB and SHM?

HGB (Certificate of Land Ownership) and SHM (Certificate of Property Ownership) are documents verifying ownership rights. Their accurate issuance is vital for legal ownership and property transactions.

Why is the investigation pivotal?

It ensures procedural integrity, protecting residents’ rights and preventing fraudulent claims, which could otherwise have substantial legal and economic repercussions.

How can citizens contribute to transparency?

By staying informed and participating in public forums or contacting local authorities if discrepancies are noticed, citizens can play a role in encouraging transparency.

Pro Tips for Staying Informed

Did you know? Understanding local land laws and rights can empower property owners to safeguard their investments against unlawful claims.

Conclusion and Call to Action

As these investigations unfold, maintaining public engagement is crucial. Readers are encouraged to stay informed by subscribing to our newsletter or exploring related articles on our website, ensuring that they are always updated on developments in land certification and legal processes.

PDIP’s Response to Hasto’s Allegations: Jokowi and KPK in the Spotlight

by Chief Editor January 10, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Former PDIP Politician Refutes Claims of Corruption Case Politicization Against PDIP Secretary-General

Subhead: Hasto Kristiyanto’s emergence as a suspect in KPK‘s Harun Masiku corruption case sparks fresh debate.

Article:

In a recent turn of events, former PDIP politician Effendi Simbolon has dismissed allegations that the recent designation of PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect in the Harun Masiku corruption case is a form of politicization of law and a plot engineered by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Instead, Simbolon contends that Jokowi has been covertly assisting Hasto in evading the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) scanner.

"Jokowi has been subtly helping Hasto all this time," Simbolon insistently declared during an event at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development in Jakarta, as reported by detik.com. "Until the end of the previous KPK leadership’s term (2019-2024), Hasto’s case was never pursued, in my understanding."

However, PDIP’s spokesperson, Guntur Romli, challenged Simbolon’s assertion, maintaining that it was Hasto who consistently supported Jokowi. Guntur revealed that Hasto declined offers for ministerial positions from Jokowi during both of his presidential terms, adhering to his commitment to maintaining the PDIP secretary-general post’s independence and distance from the executive power.

"As PDI Perjuangan’s Secretary-General, Mas Hasto fully supported and assisted Jokowi, following the instructions of our party’s Chairperson, Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri," Guntur confirmed on Thursday (9/1).

Guntur further suggested that by making such statements, Simbolon has inadvertently strengthened Jokowi’s position in managing the case at KPK. He also criticized some PDIP elites for persistently criticizing Jokowi, despite his constant support for the party. Meanwhile, Jokowi evaded responding to Simbolon’s claims, instead questioning why he should defend himself against baseless allegations.

Previously, Simbolon had called for Megawati’s resignation as PDIP’s chairperson, following Hasto’s designation as a suspect in the corruption case. Despite meeting with Jokowi in Solo a few days afterward, the president dismissed the meeting as a mere social call, refusing to discuss PDIP matters.

As the political landscape in Indonesia continues to evolve, the public eagerly awaits further developments and responses from the key players involved in this high-profile corruption case.

JAKARTA — Indonesian President Joko Widodo has reportedly welcomed the KPK to probe his wealth, following a call from a political activist. In a light-hearted response, President Jokowi, as he is popularly known, expressed his readiness to cooperate with the anti-corruption agency.

"I’m open to the idea (of a KPK investigation), not once or twice, but even many times, he-he-he," Jokowi stated during a visit to Solo on Thursday, January 9, 2025. "If they want to check, let them check. It’s not a problem," he added.

Previously, a political activist has urged the KPK to investigate the wealth of Jokowi and his family. According to Indonesia’s E-LHKPN (Electronic Wealth Report) data, Jokowi was worth Rp95.8 billion in 2023.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo Welcomes Corruption Reports, Urges Transparency

Indonesian President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, has responded to mounting civilian pressure for a corruption investigation against him, expressing openness to any reports filed with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). In an interview at his residence in Solo, Central Java, the President stated that he has no qualms about being reported to the KPK and, in fact, has been reported multiple times in the past.

"We welcome it," Jokowi said with a laugh. "We don’t mind if anyone wants to report us to the KPK. And if anyone wants to check our wealth, they are free to do so."

Previously, a group of academics and activists from Nurani 98 visited the KPK headquarters in Jakarta, urging the commission to follow up on previous reports in 2022 and 2024 regarding alleged corruption, collusion, nepotism, and money laundering involving Jokowi and his family.

Effendi SimbolonComments on Megawati Stepping Down, PDIP’s Stance After Meeting Jokowi

PDIP Veteran: Megawati Should Step Down After Hasto‘s KPK Status

Jakarta – Former PDIP cadre Effendi Simbolon has stirred the political pot by suggesting that PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri should step down following the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) naming Sekjen PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect. PDIP spokesperson Guntur Romli suspects that Effendi’s views might be influenced by his recent meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"Effendi Simbolon just met with Jokowi, perhaps this is a result of their meeting which was not so positive for PDI Perjuangan," Guntur told reporters on Wednesday (8/1/2025).

Guntur then referenced Megawati’s statement on 12 December 2024, where she mentioned certain parties trying to disrupt PDIP. He believes Effendi’s comments confirm her earlier claims.

"Thus, it’s confirmed that there are indeed parties trying to disrupt our party," Guntur said.

Guntur also believes that Hasto’s status as a suspect is politically motivated, aiming to pressure Megawati to step down. Effendi Simbolon echoed similar sentiments, stating that PDIP needs a comprehensive evaluation, including its top leadership.

Effendi, who attended an event at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development in Jakarta, expressed concern over the legal issues currently facing PDIP. He believes that PDIP has never had a structural cadre with such a status before.

"An evaluation must be conducted, starting from the position of the party chairman. There needs to be a total renewal of the party’s leadership," Effendi said.

The PDIP veteran’s comments have sparked fresh discussions within the party, with many calling for a thorough review of its leadership and structure.

Effendi Simbolon Reveals: Jokowi’s Actions Have Unexpectedly Aided Hasto

by Chief Editor January 8, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Former PDIP Member Defends Jokowi: ‘He Helped Hasto, Not Interfered’ as KPK Indicts PDIP Secretary-General

Article:

In a surprising turn of events, former PDIP cadre Effendi Simbolon has come to the defense of former Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), stating that he believes there’s no involvement of the latter in the legal troubles faced by PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto. Instead, Effendi asserted that Jokowi actually provided assistance to Hasto during his tenure as president.

Effendi, speaking at an event held at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/1/2025), was initially asked about the alleged politicization of the case involving Hasto. However, he chose to bring Jokowi into the conversation, stating, "No, to my knowledge, in fact, Mr. Jokowi has helped him, as far as I know."

Hasto’s status as a suspect was recently announced by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) during the tenure of the new leadership, a period in which Jokowi is no longer serving as president. The announcement was made by KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto on December 24, 2024.

Effendi pointed out that Hasto’s status as a suspect only emerged during the new leadership’s period, suggesting that the previous leadership had not pursued the case. "The proof is, until the period of the previous leadership, there was no such thing. This is a new period," Effendi explained.

When pressed again about Jokowi’s role in protecting Hasto, Effendi only spoke about the attention the former president had given to the PDIP secretary-general. "It means that he, politically, has actually given attention, there has never been anything like what is being accused," Effendi said.

Effendi also revealed that he had personally informed Hasto about Jokowi’s support. "I also told Mr. Hasto, ‘Mr., to my knowledge, Mr. Jokowi is the one who is helping you.’ ‘Oh, no, this is…’," Effendi recounted.

Expressing concern over the legal troubles faced by PDIP, Effendi suggested that PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri should also bear responsibility. He argued that, according to the Law on Political Parties, the party’s leadership should be held accountable to the public.

"Because this is fatal, all leadership should also resign. The party is not owned by an individual, it is regulated by the Law on Political Parties, so it should also be accountable to the public," Effendi said.

Hasto Kristiyanto, the current PDIP secretary-general, is currently a suspect in the KPK’s investigation into the alleged bribery of the time extension for the position of Harun Masiku, a former election official. He is also a suspect in the obstruction of justice case, allegedly instructing his phone and Harun Masiku’s phone to be submerged and ordering Harun Masiku to flee.

Troubles on LRT Jabodebek Track: Train Stops Near Bekasi Barat Station

A light rail transit (LRT) train operating on the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi (LRT Jabodebek) line recently experienced an unusual incident. The incident occurred when the train temporarily stopped short of entering Bekasi Barat Station, raising concerns among passengers and causing a temporary disruption in service. The operator, PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (PT KCIC), has since provided an official statement regarding the incident.

In a viral video circulating on social media platforms, the LRT Jabodebek train can be seen stopping abruptly on the tracks, with a person dressed in white standing nearby, seemingly taking a photo using their mobile device. PT KCIC swiftly addressed the situation, attributing the incident to a technical issue with one of the train sets (TS) in the Bekasi Barat area. Emergency maintenance operations were promptly deployed to rectify the issue.

In a statement released via their official Twitter account, PT KCIC apologized for the disruption in service on the Jatimulya-Cawang line, caused by a malfunctioning TS15 between Bekasi Barat and Cikunir 2. The incident transpired on Monday, January 6, 2025, around 9:35 AM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Approximately 35 passengers were safely evacuated from the affected train using TS23, which proceeded to Bekasi Barat Station.

To minimize further disruptions, PT KCIC altered the train’s route, changing the scheduled journey from Dukuh Atas BNI – Jatimulya to Dukuh Atas BNI – Cikunir 1, before resuming its journey with TS23 from Cikunir 1 – Jatimulya. Throughout this process, PT KCIC assured the public that LRT Jabodebek services would resume their normal schedules as soon as possible.

Mahendro Trang Bawono, Manager of Public Relations for LRT Jabodebek, confirmed the restoration of normal services and emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining the safety and reliability of the LRT Jabodebek system. "We appreciate our users’ patience and understanding during the restoration process," he noted.

Despite the temporary setback, services between Dukuh Atas BNI and Harjamukti remained unaffected throughout the incident. PT KCIC urges passengers to remain vigilant and adhere to safety procedures. The company assures continued dedication to ensuring the safety and reliability of LRT Jabodebek services.

PT KCIC extends its sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the service disruption and confirms that LRT Jabodebek operations have since returned to normal.
