Local Vigilantes Corner Motorcycle Thieves in East Jakarta
Jakarta – A pair of motorcycle thieves faced the wrath of an angry mob after being caught red-handed in the act on Jalan Dermaga Raya, Klender, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta (Jaktim). The duo was accosted by locals after attempting to steal a motorcycle using a common modus operandi – snapping the kickstand to immobilize it before making off with it.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing locals shouting "motorcycle thief" as the suspect, riding a black, licenseplate-less motorcycle, collides with another rider. The suspect, dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and a blue jacket, was seen speeding away before losing control and crashing.
In the aftermath, several locals approached the downed suspect, who was then dragged to the side of the road and his motorcycle vandalized. A follow-up video showed two naked, bloodied men – likely the same suspects – being interrogated by locals in a nearby minimarket.
