Title: Integrated Stasiun Karet and BNI City: A Walkway and Travelator Proposed for Commuters
In a move to improve connectivity and commuter experience, transport experts have suggested building walkways and travelators to connect Stasiun Karet and Stasiun BNI City. This proposal comes in conjunction with discussions to integrate the two stations, which are approximately 350 meters apart.
Djoko Setijowarno, Chairman of the Advocacy and Public Relations Division of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI), shared his thoughts on the matter. "The key is to ensure comfortable access for commuters. That could mean providing a pleasant pedestrian path, or if speed is needed, installing travelators," he said.
Stasiun Karet’s limited space poses a challenge for further development, making it difficult even to extend platforms. Meanwhile, Stasiun BNI City has more available land that can be developed.
Integrating Stasiun BNI City and Stasiun Karet promises a faster commute to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, reducing travel time from 56 minutes to 40 minutes. KAI Commuter, together with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), is currently discussing and coordinating with the Directorate General of Railways – Ministry of Transportation (DJKA) to integrate the operations of the two stations.
In its efforts to enhance commuter experience, KAI Commuter is also improving facilities at Stasiun BNI City, including enhancing benz shelters to protect pedestrians from sun and rain as they head towards the station.
This integration and proposed pedestrian facilities aim to create a seamless, comfortable, and efficient journey for commuters using these two critical transport hubs.
