No arrests have been made following an armed robbery on a Mount Pearl walking trail last Friday morning. A woman was accosted by an unknown man around 9:30 a.m. while using the Admiralty Walking Trail. The victim sustained minor injuries during the encounter, for which she was treated by paramedics at the scene.
Investigation and Suspect Description
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) launched an extensive search of the area near Carroll Drive immediately following the incident. Officers utilized drones, dogs, and all-terrain vehicles to track the suspect, who brandished a weapon during the robbery.

The suspect was last seen fleeing in the direction of Richard Nolan Drive. Authorities describe the individual as a tall, thin, Caucasian male. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hoodie and black pants. The RNC is requesting that anyone who was in the vicinity of the Admiralty Walking Trail between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Friday contact them with information.
The city of Mount Pearl manages something like 60 or 70 kilometres of trail, which includes close to add entry points that present challenges for constant security monitoring.
Safety Measures and Future Planning
Mayor Dave Aker stated that while the trails are safe, he encourages residents to use the buddy system when walking. Following the attack, municipal enforcement officers conducted bicycle patrols along the trail network throughout the weekend.
The city is continuing to improve lighting and safety. Discussions regarding the addition of security cameras are also underway. However, Mayor Aker noted that with the extensive trail network and multiple access points, it remains impossible to have someone on every corner just as it’s not possible to have an RNC officers on every trail.
The city itself says there is no place for violence in the community, and it will continue to improve lighting and safety.
What Happens Next
The city is expected to continue its efforts to improve lighting and safety infrastructure across its recreation network. As part of these efforts, Mayor Aker has encouraged residents to participate in a “Safe Trail Walk” tomorrow night, which is part of their recreation program.
