In the footage, the businessman is seen shouting at the family, ordering them to leave his store. "The dirty Venezuelans, they need to get out of Hialeah. They all need to get out of here," he exclaimed. Luttinger accompanied the post with a caption stating, "A Cuban threw us out of his store with mistreatment and bad service just for being Venezuelans."
The Diario cited Batista, who recounted the distressing experience she and her family endured. She revealed that the Cuban man’s hostile attitude was evident from the beginning. When she asked to stay with her husband to rent a truck, the store owner shouted that only one person could be there and demanded that they leave.
Batista described the man’s behavior as violent, stating, "He was so rude and full of rage. He could have pulled out a gun and shot us." She expressed her disbelief that a Cuban, who likely fled his homeland due to dictatorship, would target Venezuelans in his own business.
Alexis Goncalves, Batista’s husband, confirmed to The Diario that the Cuban man was armed during the altercation.
While the xenophobic act was not directly tied to Batista’s political leanings, her outspoken support for Venezuela’s Chavista regime has drawn attention. In 2023, fellow Venezuelan actress Carolina Tejera strongly criticized Batista’s chavista stance, questioning her support for the regime while living in Miami.
