Malaysia Turns Back Two freighters Carrying Over 300 Myanmar Migrants

Malaysia Expels Two Myanmar Vessels Carrying Hundreds of Undocumented Migrants

Malaysia’s maritime authority has expelled two vessels from Myanmar, with an estimated 300 undocumented migrants on board. According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the vessels were located approximately two nautical miles (3.7 kilometers) west of Langkawi‘s northern resort on Friday, January 3.

Director-General of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Mohd Rosli Abdullah, stated that the agency provided aid, including food and clean water, before escorting the vessels back to Malaysia’s territorial waters. He also noted that the MMEA is working with Thai authorities to gather more information about the vessels’ movements.

Earlier that day, Malaysian police arrested nearly 200 Rohingya migrants from Myanmar after their boat grounded in Langkawi. Many Rohingya, who predominantly practice Buddhism, have fled persecution in their homeland, with some seeking refuge in Malaysia or Bangladesh.

The treacherous ocean journey to Malaysia often takes months. Many migrants, frighting detection, slip across the border with Thailand. Those apprehended are frequently sent to overcrowded and unsanitary detention centers.

Youth Gang in Sleman Targets RM Padang Workers Due to Curry Shortage

by Chief Editor January 2, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Title: Food Fracas: Yogyakarta Padang Restaurant Workers Assaulted Over Soup Scarcity

In an unexpected turn of events, a group of young men allegedly caused chaos and assaulted workers at a popular Padang restaurant in Godean, Sleman, Yogyakarta, sparking viral controversy on social media. The incident, which occurred around 4:30 AM (WIB) yesterday, left restaurant staff bewildered and injured.

Videos circulating online capture the volatile scene, showing a mob of young men swiftly moving from the cashier area towards the kitchen, with some individually targeting staff members. Despite other members’ attempts to intervene, the infractions persisted, leaving two workers with injuries, one sustaining a foot kick.

Fuel to the Fire: The Soup Shortage

The crisis began when the group of around seven young men, five of whom had already eaten, spotted the shortage of soup. A more aged member of the group questioned the scarcity, leading to a swift escalation of tempers. The altercation, which could be heard even during the call to dawn prayer, resulted in damaged property and a harrowing experience for the restaurant staff.

Staff Perspective

In an interview conducted later, a staff member identified as ‘S’ recounted the events, "They were upset about the soup running out, and suddenly everything escalated. One of them kicked my colleague in the foot. There were two who were especially aggressive."

Next Steps

Police are currently investigating the incident. Authorities are urged to swiftly identify and apprehend those involved to maintain peace and ensure the safety of local businesses and their employees. Let us hope that justice prevails and that such violent episodes remain exceptions, not trends.

Gamma Family Coordinates with Experts to Report General Irwan to Propam

by Chief Editor January 1, 2025

Headline: Family of SMK Student Fatally Shot by Police Considers Legal Action Against Officer as He’s Transferred

Subhead: Relatives of Gamma Rizkynata Oktafandy, the 17-year-old SMK student killed by a police officer in Semarang, Jawa Tengah, are weighing legal options against Kombes Pol Irwan, the former head of Semarang’s Police Resort, who has been transferred to the Police Education and Training Center (STIK) in Jakarta.

Article:

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — The family of Gamma Rizkynata Oktafandy, the teenager killed by a police officer in Semarang, Jawa Tengah, is considering taking legal action against Kombes Pol Irwan, who was recently transferred from his position as the head of Semarang’s Police Resort to the Police Education and Training Center (STIK) in Jakarta.

Irwan has been embroiled in controversy since the incident in November, where a police officer, Aipda Robig Zainudin, shot and killed Gamma during a confrontation. Irwan, as the then-head of Semarang’s Police Resort, issued a statement claiming that Robig had fired in self-defense after being threatened with a sharp weapon during an attempt to disperse a street brawl.

However, Irwan’s version of events has been disputed. The family of Gamma, represented by Zaenal Abidin ‘Petir’, has questioned Irwan’s account, arguing that the officer’s actions were not justified. They have since demanded that Irwan be removed from his position, citing a lack of professionalism and potential corruption of the investigation.

The family is now considering filing a complaint against Irwan with the Police Professional Ethics Commission (Propam) at the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri). "We’re still gathering information from experts to confirm if Irwan’s statements can indeed be reported," said Subambang, the family’s spokesperson and Gamma’s grandfather. "We need to be careful not to make any mistakes."

The family’s lawyer, Zaenal, has welcomed Irwan’s transfer but has also called for a review of the former officer’s actions. "Polri should evaluate Irwan’s decision to try and ‘protect’ Robig after he fatally shot Gamma and his friends," he said. Zaenal also criticized Irwan’s visit to Gamma’s family shortly after the teenager’s death, suggesting it was an attempt to hush up the matter.

The family maintains that Irwan should not be allowed to hold a similar position in the future. "It’s only right that he’s no longer the head of Semarang’s Police Resort," said Zaenal. "But we’ll still report him to Propam for not conducting a transparent investigation into Gamma’s case."

However, the public relations department of the Jawa Tengah Police has denied that Irwan’s transfer is a result of the incident. Kombes Artanto, the department’s head, stated that the transfer is a routine rotation within the police force.

The officer who shot Gamma, Aipda Robig Zainudin, has been dismissed from the police force and is currently facing legal charges for murder and assault causing death, as filed by Gamma’s family. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

In a recent hearing with the DPR’s Commission III, Irwan expressed his condolences to Gamma’s family and the people of Semarang, stating that he was prepared to face any consequences for his actions. However, his apology has done little to appease the family, who continue to seek justice for Gamma’s death.

"Bogor Police Arrest Suspects After Youths Ostracize Pregnant Woman at Puncak Summit"

Breaking News: Puncak Bogor Viral Again, This Time with Case of Assault on Pregnant Woman

BOGOR, VIVA – Following the recent controversy about exorbitant toll fees on the Puncak alternate route, Puncak Bogor has once again become the center of viral attention, this time due to an act of violence against a pregnant woman.

A dashboard camera (dashcam) recording has been circulating on social media, showing a group of individuals assaulting a married couple on the Puncak alternate route. The woman, who is pregnant, was subjected to severe violence that put her at risk of a miscarriage. Here’s the full story of this distressing incident.

Timeline of Events

On Sunday, December 22, 2024, around 3:30 PM WIB, a married couple was driving to a villa for a holiday trip on the Puncak alternate route. However, they encountered a vehicle parked by the roadside, with one of its tires suspected to have fallen into a ditch. The couple slowed down to avoid the parked vehicle when, allegedly, one of their side mirrors brushed against a bystander.

Unhappy about this, several individuals who were present began assaulting the couple’s car. This escalated into an altercation between the woman, who was sitting in the passenger seat, and the group. The woman then stepped out of the car, at which point she was violently attacked.

Her husband also tried to intervene but was punched in the right eye, leaving him injured. The couple was taken aback by this unprovoked attack and decided to file a police report after initially trying to resolve the issue through mediation.

Health Condition and Legal Action

The pregnant woman was admitted to Cisarua Public Hospital for examination. Her medical report indicates a high risk of miscarriage due to the assault.

Initially, both parties reached a compromise through mediation at Megamendung Police Sector. However, given the woman’s deteriorating health, the couple decided to press ahead with legal action.

So far, three suspects have been identified and two of them have been arrested and detained at Bogor Police Headquarters. The third suspect is still at large and is wanted by the police.

Bogor Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, Commissioner Teguh Kumara, stated that the suspects are local residents who did not previously know the victims. The motive behind the assault, according to Teguh, is anger over the alleged collision between the victim’s car and one of the suspects who was repairing his vehicle by the roadside.

The police are currently awaiting the woman’s medical report from Cisarua Public Hospital to strengthen their case. They continue to chase down the third suspect as well.

This is a developing story. Follow VIVA for more updates.

Indonesian Corruption Watchdog Questions BPJN Kalbar Official Over Unreported Assets

by Chief Editor December 28, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Potential Irregularities in Asset Declaration Haunt Kalbar Chief Dedy Mandarsyah”>BPJN Kalbar Head, Dedy Mandarsyah; KPK Steps In After Social Media Outcry

Article:

The case of Dedy Mandarsyah, the head of Balai Pelaksana Jalan Nasional (BPJN) in Kalimantan Barat, is gaining traction as recent reports suggest discrepancies in his asset declaration. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has since launched an investigation following public outcry.

The saga began with the viral case of a doctor being assaulted by Datuk, a driver for a woman known only as ‘Lady’. In a stroke of irony, it turns out that ‘Lady’ is none other than Dedy Mandarsyah’s daughter. The public’s scrutiny of the family’s wealth led to suspicions about the source of their assets.

Acting swiftly, the KPK has started its analysis of Dedy’s asset declaration as part of its ongoing probe. "We’re currently examining the LHKPN (Laporan Harta Kekayaan Penyelenggara Negara) of Mr. Dedy Mandarsyah as part of our preventive corruption measures," said Budi Prasetyo, spokesperson for the KPK.

Budi revealed that the investigation involves cross-checking declared assets and tracking down undeclared assets that may exist. He encouraged the public to come forward with any information they might have about Dedy’s assets.

"KPK appreciates the public’s role in pushing this issue into the spotlight," Budi said. "We’re committed to addressing public concerns and tackling corruption."

In a subsequent development, the KPK confirmed the existence of undeclared assets belonging to Dedy. "We’ve found several assets that were not included in his LHKPN," said Pahala Nainggolan, a deputy commissioner at the KPK.

The KPK will now proceed to question Dedy, but the details of the interrogation have not yet been disclosed. This case is a reminder of the KPK’s commitment to Follow the Money, as it has previously scrutinized asset declarations of high-profile figures following social media uproar.

Pirngadi Returns Aniaya, Youthful Doctor Sold Bread in Medan, to Campus

Medan Mugging Goes Viral: Medical Student‘s Rough Relationship with Street Vendor

Medan, Indonesia – A medical student, identified only by her initial ‘F’, has been returning to her university after spending time at Pirngadi General Hospital (RSUD Pirngadi Medan) following an alleged assault on a roti bakar street vendor in Medan. Her return to campus in late July has raised questions about the incident and its aftermath.

According to Gibson Girsang, the Head of Public Relations at RSUD Pirngadi Medan, F was sent back to her university due to interpersonal issues with her peers. While he didn’t elaborate on the specifics, Girsang confirmed that the decision was made in late July.

The incident occurred on December 19, when F allegedly assaulted Fitra Samosir, a 26-year-old roti bakar vendor. The incident took place at Fitra’s workplace on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan in Medan Timur.

Earlier in the day, F had purchased a chocolate cheese roti bakar from Fitra. However, later that evening, F returned and threw two leftover pieces of roti bakar at Fitra, who was left with lacerations on his hand and forehead. Fitra later filed a police report (STTLP/B/3609/XII/2024/SPKT) detailing the incident.

This is not F’s first run-in with the law. In 2023, she was involved in a dispute with a couple in the parking lot of RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan over a parking spot, which was later resolved through mediation.

Medan Police Chief Kombes Gidion Arif Setyawan confirmed receiving Fitra’s report and stated that the police are currently investigating the incident. Gidion also revealed that he had spoken with Fitra via video call and observed bruising around his eye.

As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how this will impact F’s academic career and her relationship with her peers. Follow us for updates on this developing story.
