Famous Cliff in Bali Collapses

Heavy Rains Trigger Landslide at Iconic Cliffs of Pandawa Beach, Bali; No Casualties Reported

In a dramatic turn of events, a heavy downpour in South Kuta, Bali, caused a landslide at the Barak Cliffs in Pandawa Beach, temporarily disrupting access to the famed tourist spot. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

The deluge began early Monday (June 6), leading to the collapse of cliffs in the Tanah Barak-Pandawa Beach area, Kutuh Village, South Kuta, Badung. The resulting debris covered the iconic road with towering cliffs on either side, blocking access since the early hours.

The head of the Tourism Destination Development and Planning Board for Pantai Pandawa, I Wayan Duartha, confirmed that heavy machinery is being deployed to clear the road. Completion of the operation is estimated to take until Tuesday.

"Today, we’ve deployed heavy machinery. Afterwards, we’ll patrol to ensure the cliff condition is safe," Duartha said on Monday afternoon.

Duartha blamed the landslide on the combination of heavy rainfall and the multi-layered structure of the cliff, which collapsed rapidly. He deemed himself lucky that no casualties occurred.

He explained that the collapsed section was a thin layer of rock that remained after previous cliff-clearing operations. Despite the incident, Duartha assured that the remaining layer of the cliff is robust and sturdy.

As a precaution, the management of Pantai Pandawa, which oversees the entire area, will continue to monitor the cliff conditions regularly. Cleanup efforts began on Monday at 9:00 AM WITA, with the access road through Tanah Barak still closed due to lingering debris.

Failed Contract Extension for Sandi Bingung, Damkar Depok’s Fate Uncertain

Headline: Ex-Damkar Depok Employee Baffled as Contract Not Renewed; Officials Cite Contract Expiration and Performance Evaluation

Article:

DEPOK — Sandi Butar Butar is left bewildered after his contract with the Depok Disaster Mitigation Agency (Damkar Depok) was not renewed. The former employee is puzzled by the reasons behind his contract’s non-renewal.

"Honestly, I don’t know. What was my mistake? Could it be personal vendetta? Or maybe it’s from Bu Tesy? Perhaps the issue lies with me? Maybe I did something wrong in my work?" Sandi conjectured to reporters in Depok on Tuesday (7/1/2025).

Sandi felt he had never absented himself from his duties as a Damkar Depok staff member. He also claimed to have always followed his superiors’ orders. However, he was left perplexed when he was told that his contract would not be extended.

"I’m also confused because I was fired. What was the factor? What were the standardizations? If they said I could join, I would join immediately. Whatever they commanded, I always finished my tasks. Even when I got burned or broke my bones, I kept going," Sandi explained.

officials, however, attributed Sandi’s contract non-renewal to the expiration of his contract.

"Previously, there was a question why his contract was not renewed. We explained that it was not renewed because the period of his employment contract had expired," said Tesy Haryanti, the acting head of the Operational Control of Fire and Rescue Division at Damkar Depok.

Tesy also cited an internal evaluation at Damkar Depok as a reason for not renewing Sandi’s contract. She added that the evaluation was based on an annual performance review, which led to the decision not to renew his contract.

"Another reason is the internal evaluation we conduct at our office, the Depok Fire and Rescue Department. Everyone is evaluated every year, including you. We have an evaluation every year, and that indicates that his contract cannot be renewed," Tesy said clearly.

Sandi’s employment contract termination was confirmed through a certificate of resignation issued by the Disaster Mitigation Agency with number 800/140/PKTT/PO.DAMKAR/I/2024. The certificate stated that Sandi’s contract was not renewed.

"His work period was from November 10, 2015, to December 31, 2024. The reason for leaving is that the contract was not renewed. On behalf of the Depok Fire and Rescue Department, we express our gratitude for your hard work and dedication," the certificate read.

The certificate was issued on Thursday (2/1) and signed by Tesy Haryanti, the acting head of the Operational Control of Fire and Rescue Division.

Headline: Depok’s Dispute: Damkar Worker With ‘Room Tour’ Viral Moment Sees Contract Terminated; Alleges Lack of Performance Evaluation

Subhead: Sandi Butar Butar, a former employee of Depok’s Fire Department (Damkar), raises concerns about the termination of his contract and the alleged absence of performance evaluations for a decade.

Byline: [Your Name], Contributing Writer

Article:

DEPOK — The Fire and Rescue Department of Depok city (Dinas Pemadam Kebakaran dan Penyelamatan) has refrained from renewing the contract of Sandi Butar Butar, a former staff member who gained attention for his ‘room tour‘ video showcasing the department’s operational assets. In a notable turn of events, Sandi has reported suspected corruption and raised questions about the alleged lack of performance evaluations during his nearly decade-long tenure.

Sandi, speaking to a reporter in Depok on Tuesday (7/1/2025), claimed, "There was none. In almost 10 years of service, there was never any evaluation." He expressed uncertainty about the evaluation standards for Damkar personnel and asserted that he believed his work to be commendable despite the lack of official assessment.

"I think I worked well. Essentially, I feel you just have to follow the standard operating procedures, obey superior orders," Sandi explained. He revealed that three Damkar staff members, including himself, had not had their contracts renewed.

"It’s actually three of us. The other two were rarely present. As for me, I really don’t know why I was let go. Maybe my superiors manipulated my attendance records, but that’s just speculation," he said, referring to his confusion about the reasons for his termination.

Sandi admitted that, until recently, he was unaware of any performance evaluation process. However, he mentioned that members were required to submit activity reports, which he believed were rarely reviewed or validated by superiors. "We’d submit these, but the feedback or evaluation never seemed to come, and it always felt like we were just writing them to fill a void," he concluded.

Depok‘s Firefighting Agency Explains Unrenewed Contract for Sandi Butar Butar

Depok, Indonesia – The Head of the Operational Control and Rescue Division at the Depok Fire and Rescue Department ( tzv ‘Damkar’), Tesy Haryanti, has clarified the reasons behind the non-renewal of contract Sandi Butar Butar. Sandi Butar Butar gained viral attention after posting a ‘room tour’ of damaged firefighting equipment, alleging suspected corruption within the department.

"Earlier, there were questions about why his contract was not renewed. We clarify that his contract was not renewed because it had reached the end of its validity period," Tesy explained to reporters on Tuesday (7/1/2025).

She further explained that the decision was also based on internal evaluations conducted annually at the Depok Fire and Rescue Department. "Based on our annual performance evaluations, we decided not to renew his contract," she added.

The non-renewal of Sandi’s contract was officially communicated in a Certificate of Service Letter No. 800/140/PKTT/PO.DAMKAR/I/2024 issued by the Depok Disaster Mitigation Agency. The letter states that his contract was not renewed due to the completion of his contract period from November 10, 2015, to December 31, 2024.

Tesy confirmed that two other firefighters also had their contracts not renewed, and all three were informed of the decision through both notification letters and the service certificates. She emphasized that the non-renewal was due to the completion of their contract periods and was not an isolated incident.

Veterinarian Treats PMK in Lumajang Residential Cattle

by Chief Editor January 5, 2025

Headline:
Veterinarian Battles Mouth and Foot Disease in Cattle Across Lumajang

Article:

In the heart of Lumajang, a dedicated veterinarian, Dr. Syamsudin, is waging a door-to-door campaign against a prevailing cattle disease, Mouth and Foot Disease (MFD), also known as Fusariosis. This relentless effort is aimed at saving the livelihoods of countless farmers and ensuring the welfare of their cattle.

The Battlefront

The war zone for Syamsudin is the sprawling landscape of Kunir, a sub-district of Lumajang. Here, he traverses village after village, visited house after house, all in pursuit of a single goal: to save cattle stricken by MFD. His daily routine involves inspecting and administering medication, including injections, antiseptic for the muzzle and hooves, and powder against flies, to approximately 7-15 cattle per day.

The Enemy: MFD

MFD, a malicious fungal disease, afflicts cattle, causing loss of appetite, excessive salivation, and wounds on the mouth and feet. It is a formidable foe, as it is highly contagious. Farmers like Nur Ikhsan, a resident of Kabuaran, Kunir, have firsthand experience with this scourge. His Limousine breed cattle displayed symptoms such as reduced appetite and open wounds on their mouths and feet, prompting him to summon Dr. Syamsudin.

Call to Arms

With nearly 900 cattle in Lumajang affected by MFD, with a grim toll of 70 succumbing to the disease, the time to act is now. The call is on all cattle farmers to maintain cleanliness in their cattle sheds and to report any cases of MFD to the veterinary health authorities.

Dr. Syamsudin echoes this call, emphasizing the critical role of cleanliness in preventing the spread of the disease. "Farmers must ensure the cleanliness of cattle sheds and report any cases of MFD to us immediately," he urges.

The fight against MFD in Lumajang is far from over, but with dedicated professionals like Dr. Syamsudin leading the charge, hope persists that thisthis_many-headed hydra can be vanquished, ensuring the health and productivity of Lumajang’s cattle.
