Jokowi’s Endorsement: Unraveling the Surprise in the Jakarta Guber Race

by Chief Editor January 2, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Title: The Enigma of Ahok and Anies: A Tale of Unexpected Alliance and Unfulfilled Promises

In an unexpected turn of events, two former governors of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) and Anies Baswedan, have sparked intrigue and curiosity by hinting at a ‘surprise’ awaiting all in the year 2025. Their cryptic remarks, made at an event celebrating the New Year, have left the public guessing and eager for more details.

Ahok and Anies: From Rivals to Allies

The event, ‘Bentang Harapan JakASA,’ was attended by various prominent figures, including former governors, vice governors, and even contenders for the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2024. The star attractions, however, were undoubtedly Ahok and Anies, who shared a stage after years of political rivalry.

The duo, who were once bitter rivals in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election, seemed to have buried the hatchet. They foreheads and exchanged whispers, displaying a camaraderie that was a stark contrast to their heated debates in the past. When asked about their private conversation, both Ahok and Anies played coy, with Ahok refusing to divulge any details and Anies merely urging the public to ‘wait and see.’

A Promising Reunion or a Fling of False Hope?

Anies, when pressed about his relationship with Ahok, acknowledged that they maintain a cordial rapport despite their differing political stances in the past. However, he also joked that any tension between them was not their fault but rather the fault of those who ‘didn’t play nice.’ Djarot Saiful Hidayat, another former governor, added fuel to the fire by hinting at an ‘upcoming surprise,’ further escalating the anticipation.

However, the public is advised to temper their expectations. While Ahok’s refusal to rule out another meeting with Anies has sparked speculation, he has simultaneously stated that he is not interested in discussing politics. This sudden shift in their relationship, from fierce rivals to unlikely allies, has generated immense curiosity. Yet, it has also raised questions about the sincerity of their rapprochement and the true nature of their ‘surprise’ promise.

The Unpredictable Politics of Jakarta

The political landscape in Jakarta has always been dynamic and unpredictable. FromAhok’s controversial tenure, marked by ambitious infrastructure projects and high-profile trials, to Anies’ cautious and consensus-driven approach, Jakarta’s gubernatorial seat has been a hotbed of contrasting political ideologies. The sudden alliance between Ahok and Anies, despite their differing styles and historical tension, is certainly a curveball that neither the public nor political analysts saw coming.

As we step into 2025, one thing is certain: the eyes of Jakarta, and indeed the rest of the nation, will be on Ahok and Anies. Whatever ‘surprise’ they have in store, it is sure to make headlines and reshape the political narrative of Indonesia’s capital. But for now, we are left with speculation and a shared whisper of anticipation: wait and see.

Former Jakarta Governors Ahok and Anies Hint at Political Surprise in 2025

Hafizh Anwar | J Jakarta, Dec 31, 2024

Article:

Two former governors of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok, and Anies Baswedan, have hinted at a political surprise in 2025. Both have asked all parties to wait for their "main event" date.

Ahok and Anies, who were bitter rivals in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election and the 2024 Indonesian legislative and presidential elections, shared this information after attending an event at Jakarta City Hall on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (Dec 31, 2024). They appeared to be on good terms, whispering to each other during the event, and were seen laughing and smiling together.

When asked what they had discussed during their whispered conversation, neither former governor wished to reveal the details. "Pak Ahok, what did you whisper about? I’ll tell you what I whispered…," said Anies humorously, putting his arm around Ahok.

Ahok then responded, refusing to divulge what he had whispered to his former rival. "Wait until next month," Ahok said, moving closer to Anies.

"Wait, wait for our ‘main event’ date. You’ve been told to wait, so just wait," added Anies, grinning.

Anies also discussed his current relationship with Ahok. He stated that despite their differing political stances in previous elections, they now maintain a cordial relationship. "You’re the ones causing the tension," Anies said, still smiling.

Former Jakarta governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat also joined in, hinting at a surprise in the coming year. "There’s a surprise in store for next year. You’ll see," Djarot said.

The event, themed "Jakarta’s Hope Aboard", was a New Year’s Eve celebration organized by the Jakarta Provincial Government. In attendance were not only the aforementioned former governors and vice governors, but also the leading gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates of the 2024 elections, including Pramono Anung, Rano Karno, Suswono, and Kun Wardana.

All present were clad in batik attire, while the acting governor, Teguh Setyabudi, donned a traditional Betawi shirt. Upon their arrival at the City Hall’s pendopo, they were greeted with food and had a group photo taken before proceeding to their meal.

"PDIP Jakarta Establishes Community Kitchen at Kemayoran Fire Site"

by Chief Editor December 13, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Summary:

Jakarta — The Disaster Mitigation Agency (BAGUNA) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) in Jakarta has established a communal kitchen and assistance post in the fire-stricken area of Kemayoran Gempol, Kebon Kosong RW 05, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. This initiative aims to support the basic needs of victims, personnel, and volunteers affected by the fire that devastated around 200 houses in the Kemayoran district.

Head of BAGUNA PDI Perjuangan Jakarta, Hardiyanto Kenneth, expresses condolences for the devastating fire. He explains that BAGUNA PDI Perjuangan Jakarta will operate the assistance post and communal kitchen for the next seven days to support approximately 1,800 people who have lost their homes. This effort is a manifestation of their sympathy and concern, as well as that of the elected Governor and Vice-Governor of Jakarta, Mas Pramono Anung and Rano Karno.

Kenneth emphasizes that BAGUNA PDI Perjuangan Jakarta will consistently and sincerely assist disaster victims, adhering to the guidance of PDI Perjuangan Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri. He hopes that the fire victims in Kebon Kosong RW 05, Kemayoran, can remain strong and patient in the face of this calamity.

Previously, the head of the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that hundreds of families, or thousands of individuals, had been displaced due to a fire suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in one of the houses. Kenneth also urges the Governor and Vice-Governor to address the long-standing issue of electrical short circuits, which frequently cause fires in densely populated areas.

Kenneth suggests that the Jakarta Provincial Government collaborate with various stakeholders to raise awareness about preventing electrical fires among the public, especially in densely populated areas. He believes that this socialization effort, if conducted appropriately and consistently, can enhance public awareness and reduce the frequency of fires, ultimately minimizing the regional government’s financial burden in assisting fire victims.

In densely populated areas, Kenneth proposes that boreholes can serve as an additional solution for firefighting, particularly when these areas are far from water sources such as rivers and canals.

Title: BAGUNA PDIP Jakarta’s Initiative: Establishing a Community Kitchen in the aftermath of Kemayoran Fire

The Jakarta chapter of the Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan (PDIP), more commonly known as PDIP Jakarta, has shown remarkable commitment to their community following a devastating fire that struck the Kemayoran area. In response to this tragedy, the party has launched an initiative called BAGUNA (Bantuan Gotong Royongographically speaking). The primary aim of this program is to establishes a communal kitchen, dubbed the Bangun Dapur Umum (BDU), to provide hot meals for the affected families and volunteers working towards the recovery efforts.

Background: The Kemayoran Fire

On the night of March 13, 2023, a massive fire engulfed a cluster of buildings in the Kemayoran area of Jakarta. The blaze, which is suspected to have started in a scrapyard, quickly spread to neighboring residential and commercial structures, leaving hundreds of families displaced. In the aftermath, there was an urgent need for coordination and support to aid the affected communities and facilitate the rebuilding process.

PDIP Jakarta’s Response: BAGUNA

Seeing the pressing need, PDIP Jakarta promptly initiated BAGUNA. The program’s objectives are multifold: to provide immediate relief, foster solidarity, and promote self-sufficiency among the affected communities.

  1. Immediate Relief: BDU serves as a central hub where volunteers cook and distribute hot meals to those who have been displaced. Since its establishment, the communal kitchen has been serving up to 1,500 meals daily, ensuring that everyone affected has access to nutritious food while they attend to their urgent needs.

  2. Fostering Solidarity: BAGUNA brings together volunteers from various walks of life. They donate food, time, and resources, creating a strong sense of community and shared purpose. This collective effort helps foster unity and resilience among the affected residents and volunteers alike.

  3. Promoting Self-sufficiency: While the primary focus is on providing immediate relief, BAGUNA also aims to empower the affected communities to regain their independence. The communal kitchen serves as a platform for skill-building and entrepreneurship. Some volunteers are even teaching affected residents new cooking techniques, which can help them start small food businesses in the future.

Conclusion

PDIP Jakarta’s BAGUNA initiative stands as a testament to the power of community mobilization and support. In the face of tragedy, the party has stepped up to provide more than just immediate relief; they are investing in the long-term recovery and resilience of the Kemayoran community. The establishment of the Bangun Dapur Umum is not merely a communal kitchen; it is a symbol of hope, unity, and self-empowerment.
